Hi Stan, Thanks for trying on the Lawrences. I already had the information from the Friendship Cemetary and they are part of the same family I am sure. My Great Grandfather, James Lawrence married a Law who lived on what is now McMurtry Lane right on the county line of Trousdale and Sumner Co. The farm is still in the same family as one of my grandpa's sisters married a McMurtry and they lived there. I also know about the limited records in Macon Co. That is why I came to you for help. The story goes that James Lawrence migrated from Virginia to Macon Co. but all the other Lawrences have been found in Sumner and Robertson Co. The reason I am trying to find the marriage record between James or Samuel and Mary Matilda Law was to see if it showed his parents names. I don't believe the William that you found could be right since the marriage took place in 1823. James was supposedly born around 1810 in Va. and he had children born in 1839, 42,44,47 and 35. If you get a chance cou! ld you check for Smith Co.? I am having a time with this!! Shirley > >
Hi Stan, Thank you very much for the information on the PHIPPS. This is helpful. Maggie Phipps
Hello Shirley, Were the parents of James LAWRENCE William and Harriett (McKINNY)? If so, their marriage license was issued in Sumner County, Tennessee, on January 4, 1823. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America! Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator
Hello Shirley, We could not find any Macon County records prior to 1901, except some town records for a couple of the communities in Macon County, Tennessee. Macon County was formed in 1842 from lands taken from Smith and Sumner Counties. Is it possible that James and Mary were wed in one of these counties? We did find some information about some members of the LAWRENCE family, but I'm not sure if they are of your clan or not. ~~~~~~~~~~ In Trousdale County, Tennessee at the Friendship Cemetery the following graves are found: LAWRENCE, Susan Matilda b. Sep. 7, 1839, d. Sep. 15, 1889. LAWRENCE, Lucinda, b. Oct. 8, 1812, d. Dec. 26, 1891, Wife of James LAWRENCE. LAWRENCE, Mary F., b. Mar. 3, 1842, d. Jan. 23, 1929. LAWRENCE, Louisa Jent, b. Nov. 16, 1835, d. Nov. 8, 1901. Wife of Samuel P. LAWRENCE. LAWRENCE, Samuel P., b. Aug. 14, 1835, d. Feb. 18, 1901. LAWRENCE, Andrew J., b. Dec. 9, 1860, d. Nov. 12, 1895. ~~~~~~~~~~ We hope some of these names are familiar and this information can help fill in some holes in your research. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Hello Shelly, We were searching through the records of the 50th TN Infantry, CSA, on microfilm. These are microfilms of the unit records of the 50th at the national archives. I will put this back in our Archives Folder and look through the records of the 50th again to make a list of all the DAVIS family members that belonged to that unit. I'll also check to be sure there are no records out of alphabetical sequence on the microfilm, which could have caused me to miss Henry's records. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
