While looking in the death indexes, do you find Mary"Polly Howell MEDLEY? Her husband George had died Jan 1850 in Jackson Co. and is listed on an index. She was head of house in the 1850 Jackson Co. census and then I do not find her anymore. Am told that they are buried in the area. Any little bit of information helps:-) Penny Giacoletti NM

Good Morning Jenny, Do you mean an index of people whose death certificates are on record with the state of Tennessee? If so, the answer is yes. The state of Tennessee has kept death certificates since 1908, except for the year of 1913. These are indexed by the year of the certificate being recorded and are not made public unless they are 50 years old. For example, the death certificates for 1952 have just been made available to the public. You can, if you have the death date, get a death certificate for later years from the state of Tennessee if you are doing genealogical research on your family by contacting the State and paying a small fee. You can find a little more about the death certificates and the index of them at the following addresses: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death2.htm Index to Tennessee Death Records 1908-1912 http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death.htm Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914-1925 You can also find more about death and birth records at: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/vital3.htm TSLA: Tennessee History & Genealogy: Birth & Death Records We hope this answers your questions. Hello Frances, I have added this information to our Archives Folder. Yes, I seem to recall an Ellis Cemetery having been moved to make J. Percy Priest Lake. I believe I researched this for someone else once before but don't recall where the people buried there were moved to. We'll let you know as soon as we find something for you. Hello everyone, There is a great site for those of you that grew up in or around Nashville that talks about some of the history of Nashville from about 1950 to today. There are also some photos on this site of events and sites around town through that time period. You might find something new or spark a good memory by visiting this site. The name of this site is "Nashville Memories." You can find it at the following location: http://nashlinks.com/remember.htm Nashville Memories We hope you enjoy this site and maybe recall some fond memory of the past. Hello everyone, If you have an interest in old maps and like to glean information from them for your research as I do, you might be interested in this map. Ancestry.com has made available to us, at no charge, a map depicting the eastern part of North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The areas are highlighted in different colors to show what country they were territories or colonies of in 1755. You can find this map at the following location: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/reference/maps/freeimages.asp?ImageID=4 14 Don't forget the last characters of this address if it continues onto two lines of your email. The last two characters of this address are 14. We hope you find this map to be useful as well as entertaining. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. "From Sea To Shining Sea!" I'm not sure if that is what Stan already used to provide info for me or not. I think he might have been checking cemetery listing. In any case, I'm looking for any Quarles or Qualls names. This brick wall of mine is driving me nuts! Thanks to folks like ya'll, however, I've managed to put a few chinks in lately. Jenny
Jenny, TN has the TN Mortality Index for the years 1850, 1860 and 1880; I have this if I can look something up for you. Some counties do have an indivdual index. Shelby County has a very good one at the Memphis and Shelby County Library web site.
Stan, Does Tennessee have a death index? Sure would be helpful if they did. My thanks to you and the rest of the rootwalkers for all the help you've given. Jenny in Texas

Good morning DC, I will be happy to put this query in our Archives Folder to research on a future trip to an archives or library. I have one question that may help us in finding this marriage record. Do you know what county these good people were known to have lived in? It would also help to know what county your grandmother was born in and what year, if you have that information. To the best of my knowledge, they lived in Lebanon, Wilson County, TN. I heard of an ELLIS cemetery which was covered by a lake. The graves supposedly were moved to another location, but have never found the location. I appreciate your help.
