Cousins: I talked to Nancy Prosser tonight. While I was at the Tennessee State Archives recently I copied some notes down. A few months ago we had a string going on the Revolutionary War Patriots of the area. Nancy's mother Jane Wallace Alford did extensive research in Marshall County, among the books that she has written are Revolutionary War Patriots of Marshall County, Tennessee. I told Nancy that I would like to post the following from her mother's book. There is probably a connection to some of our "Ridge Cousins" here. William Elzey (Elsey) William Elzey (Elsey) was born in 1758 in North Carolina and died in Marshall County, TN. in 1852. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier and received a pension for his service in that war while a resident of Marshall County, Tennessee. Pension records have been ordered but have not arrived in time to be included. He is listed in the 1840 Marshall Co. Census aged 80 to 90 years. In the papers of Miss. Susie Gentry, on file at the Tennessee State Archives is a letter written in 1909 concerning William Elzey. Mrs. M. C. Sorrells of Petersburg, Tennessee wrote Miss. Gentry stating William Elzey, her grandfather, was a Revolutionary Soldier and pensioner. She stated that he died in Marshall County in the year 1852, aged 94 years. He was buried on his farm where he spent the last several years of his life. His grave is in the eastern part of Marshall County, Northeast of Petersburg, TN. His name should have been included on the bronze marker in Memorial Park. Bobby Prosser prossergenealogy@comcast.net --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
