    1. [TN-CHESTNUTRIDGECOUSINS] KING FAMILY
    2. This is from the book "Petersburg History" by the Heritage Committee Homecoming 86. I do not know who wrote this KING history as no name appears. I only photo copied some families so perhaps one person wrote the history that wrote other family histories in this book but do not have that info. I tried to post it as words were spelled in the article. I have other families and will post later. KING FAMILY Epraim King, a brother of Sara King who married John Armstrong, came to Petersburg with his brothers and sisters and his mother. Ephraim King was born about 1789 in South Carolina. He married Jane Harkins and died in 1845. Their children were James G. King II, Andrew Jackson King, born Sept. 8, 1813, in Tennessee. He married Isabelle Eliza Mitchell, Feb 28, 1839. They were the grandparents of Ibbie Delk who married John and were the parents of Miss Mary Scott a retired school teacher. She has done the most extensive research on her family and on Petersburg. Shadrack A. King, born March 22, 1819, married Mary McAdams Sept. 16, 1840. Mary was born Jan. 20, 1821. She was the daughter of John McAdams. Their daughter Rhetta Elizabeth King married Noah Benton Scott. Eprsim Caroll King- married Theodocia Burrow- died young from a horse injury. Martha G. King first married William Sorrels on March 2, 1843, E. B. King, Justice of the Peace. Second marriage to John Holley. In 1850 census - Jane Harkins King, widow of Epraim King, Jane King Estate valued at $10,000. Ephraim King bought these tracts of land East of Petersburg and Chestnut Ridge and West of Chestnut Ridge. 1817- 14 acres for $60. 1834 - 100 acres for $300. 1835 - 80 acres for $265. 1836 - 394 acres for $1500. 1838 - 50 acres for $75. (Then comes the will of Ephraim King so I will not print that as most King researchers have that and Tom King has put that on line.) In August, 1871 land was sold by James F. Hudson. Noah Benton Scott bought a tract of this land witnessed by Samuel Scott and Shadrack King. 1850 census Lincoln CO., TN; Shadrack King 31, Mary 29, James 8, Roseanna 6, Epraim 4, Martha 6 mo., Marathan Warren 22. Neighbors: Jane King Susanna Harkins (When the land was sold a small track was sold for just a few dollars so that it could be used for the HARKING CEMETERY, taken from the "Deed Books".) (The above Theodocia Burrow's and Ephraim Caroll King had one daughter, Laura b. about 1861. Theodocia then married Joshua Parkes Gammill, they had 9 children. One son Edward Cooper Gammill married Isabella Armstrong daughter of David Armstrong and Martha Evaline King. Isabella was the sister to my grandmother Willie Etta Armstrong. There where two sons as well David and James. So, Isabella's aunt by marriage became her mother in law. I will be happy to share my family history, please write me off the list. ) Julia
