CRC LIST: From: A Quote Out of Counties of Tennessee Moses Crawford was one of the first settlers of the Moore County area. In the early days there was a den of thieves and "stealing was as common as going to church." There was a vigilance committee that maintained law and order. Punishment was at the whipping post. There was a small, weakly man by the name of Lynch, living in the area and he was called on to administer the punishment and in time the place became known as Lynchburg and by tradition this has been passed down as the way that the town received its name.
