Our June meeting is quickly approaching us. I am in the process of working up a press release for the four county newspapers. We have three excellent speakers lined up for the program. Among our speakers is Don Jeter of Lewisburg. Don has done a vast amount of research of the area. Don's forte is land grants and he has been ask to share with us about that subject. In the winter 1975 copy of The Marshall County Historical Quarterly, Vol. V, no. IV are land grants that are in the Petersburg area. Among the areas that are mentioned are the Foster Hollow, Hannah Gap Branch, Cane Creek [East Fork], Chestnut Ridge Road, Petersburg and many more. Many of the old surnames that we have links to are mentioned. If Don still has enough copies it would be worthwhile for each cousin to purchase a copy. Folks this is our area that Don has researched so I think that we are all in for a treat. Also speaking will be Paulette Carpenter of the Marshall and Maury County TNGenWeb program. Paulett! e tells me after looking closely at the Chestnut Ridge map she has many roots that go back to the area. She is an archivist with Tennessee State Archives GenWeb. Don Mills with Walsworth Publishing Co. will share the work that is in process on the Lincoln Moore, Giles and Coffee County Family History Books. I know that we all have a lot on our plate, but let's get busy promoting our meeting. Remember that May 10 is the cutoff date for registrations at Henry Horton State Park. We hope to see you in June.
