Cousins: I received my "The Heritage of Moore County Tennessee 1871-2004" a week ago. At first glance it is a pretty book for the color is light blue with gold trim, lettering and a rendering of the Count House in Lynchburg on the front cover. Bobby and Polly, I most enjoyed your contributions on the Prosser and Forrester families. Thank you both for your stories and hard work on them. It saddens me greatly that Jim Deal did not get to see his article on the Deal Family in print in this book. I was so happy to be able to meet him at our 2nd CRC meeting year before last. His son drove him all the way from Lakeland, FL. so Jim could attend the Friday night barbeque at the Church in Petersburg. From reading the Deal Family history, and other info I have, Bobby, I am more and more believing that yours and John Fosters Mary Jane Armstrong married to Joel Lewis Foster line is connected to mine. I do not have it handy right now as I am reorganizing my office but Mary Jane Armstrong was born 1750?? My 3 great grandfather Thomas Armstrong was born in 1755. They had to all come together from SC. In the article Jim states that the Deal family settled in Franklin CO., TN. and the Armstrong's joined the Deal's. Thomas Armstrong, his sons John, William, Josiah and James all ended up in Lincoln. CO. by 1820. What about your Armstrong's did they make a stop in Franklin, CO? From the article I get that the part of Franklin Co. that the Deals settled in became Moore CO. I have mush more to read from this book. I find delightful surprises each time I take it up. Can hardly wait for the Lincoln CO. book. Bobby, I was so happy you steered me to purchase the Bedford Co. book for I found Mrs. Noblitts, age 100 now, who wrote me a most wonderful letter about her "Aunt Icy Bell" who happened to be my grandmother's sister Isabella Armstrong Gammill. I only had a picture of Isabella and did not know who she was. Later in the same book we found a connection to Norm Wright's, William David Wright, that we Wright researchers had been looking for, for some time. So you just never know what is waiting for you around the corner. Polly, those Wrights all got into trouble with the church as well. Esther Wright Crenshaw and brother James Wright, my great grandfather, had to make amends, James for his temper and Esther for her conduct what every it was that she did wrong but would not be surprised that it was her temper as well. Buy the way Polly I now have enough info in my FTM that shows we are 3rd cousins once removed. All of you have a great Sunday.
Julia: Yes, I am enjoying the Moore County book also. My book was sent to my father in law in Shelbyville to hold for me until I could pick it up. With his keen interest in local history and being the county historian of Bedford County for several years, I practically had to pry it out of his hands<grin>. With the many articles that have been submitted to the book project there, I am seeing more cousins in the area each time I open it up. I also will be glad to see the Lincoln County publication. Polly called me yesterday and said that there had been a lot of old records located in the Moore County Courthouse that need to be salvaged and she stated that there were many references to the PROSSER family and many others. She has started and endeavor to save them and it may mean that some funds will have to be raised, so we will all have to join in with her on this endeavor. I am awaiting for more word from her. I keep seeing your post in Lincoln and Bedford Counties on the MOORE family of "The Ridge area", I wished we could get some questions answered about our James MOORE that married Frances UNKNOWN and they were the parents of Tempie Ann MOORE, my great grandmother. At one time John thought she was possibly Frances BLEDSOE. I did find J. H. MOORE and wife Frances buried in Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Bedford County on "The Ridge" across from Foster Hollow. They are of the same time frame as my people, and they were buried among the BLEDSOE family in the cemetery, but not anything has been found to prove this. I look forward to seeing you in June and please put all the reminders out there that you can about this years meeting.
