    1. THE YEAR WITHOUT A SUMMER / 1816
    2. Prosser Genealogy - Comcast
    3. The year 1816 was a year of no summer. There were massive crop failures worldwide. It was the "poverty year". It is believed that there were over 1800 individuals that froze to death that year. As far south as Savannah, GA. it was 46 degrees on the 4th of July. Our ancestors would have just settled in the area a few short years before. Has anyone heard of any stories about how they may have handled the hardships of that terrible year. There were no chain superstores to go and get your staples. You depended on the land for your livelihood. I know that my BAGLEY family was in the four county area by 1807 and I was wondering if anyone may know of local accounts about our pioneer families that were settling in the area at that time.
