Well Julia, VA at that time period would not make me first think Cherokee. I will send you a copy of my PowerPoint presentation on reseaching your Cherokee ancestory directly. You will want to visit the links at my website: http://www.sorrellsgenealogy.com/cherokee.html The main problem is that at that time frame, and living in VA, she was not living within the Cherokee territory, therefore it is not likely she will be found on any roll records listed at the above link. You will have to search both the Cocke, Cox, Coxe and Wright surnames in the roll records, but I wouldn't hold out much hope finding anything there. I would see what you can find in the White Co., TN records. I know that some of their records have been transcribed, don't know what is on the Internet, though. Have you been able to contact Kathy who posted this? -Sherry At 02:59 PM 10/3/2005 -0700, you wrote: > >Dear Cousins, > >Below is a GenForum post. While I have a lot of info on these families, I cannot connect my great grandfather James Wright with the Cox(Cocke)-Wright line. > >So I have to find out more about Martha "Patsy Cocke/Cox. They were married Native style in 1804 and by a JP in Richmond in 1808. She is supposedly full-blood Cherokee. She and James had 3 children; Bettie(Elizabeth); Barzillia; and James jr. There was a 4th child mentioned, Seth, who was born in 1827, but according to records, Martha never remarried after James died at a Norfolk, Va. army hospital. I would appreciate it if anyone has any information, if they would contact me by email at Cherokee_2ponies@yahoo.com. >Thank you. >kathy > > >============================== >Find your ancestors in the Birth, Marriage and Death Records. >New content added every business day.
