I have been busy reducing hard files and the following caught my attention. My early known GUNTER ancestor was Mary Ann GUNTER that married Cornelius SULLIVAN. This was on a letter head from: SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS and ORDER OF THE STARS AND BARS and addressed to an individual in Nashville. Captain Daniel Whitman Christmas day at Gunter's Landing 1829 Mr. Gunter a white man a venerable, patriachal gentleman his wife a full blooded Indian. Capt. Whitman invited with family to the feast day dinner. It was accepted a fine dinner was spread by two handsome Indian girls [side note: his girls]. Mr. Gunter presided. I will be making entries periodically from Jonathan PROSSER day book. The time frame for these day book entries is in the mid 1860's. Some of these entries will be naming some surnames of the Talley Station area. Talley Station is northwest of Petersburg around three to four miles. Jonathan sold his property in "The Ridge" in the early 1860's and moved to Talley Station / Cane Creek area. The first entry is the birth dates of his children: The notes are from me. Orpha L. Prosser was born September 15, 1845 [Note: Orphia md. Dr. T. E. {Thomas Elias} Brents son of Dr. T. W. Brents, she and Dr. Brents settled in Ada Oklahoma. Mary F. Prosser was born July 30, 1847 [Note: Mary F. {Frances / Fannie} md. John Henry Darnall son of C. R. Darnall founder of New Hope Academy of the area. They settled in Pampa, Texas.] W. A. Prosser was born November 7, 1849 [Note: W. A. {Wilson Allen} md. M. C. {Mollie} Leonard. J. F. Prosser was born March 5, 1852 [Note: J. F. {Jonathan Franklin} was never married. S. R. Prosser was born November 6, 1855 [Note: S. R. {Stephen Rufus} was killed at the age of 7 years of age from being kicked by a horse]. C. C. Prosser was born November 30, 1857 [Note: This is a mysterious one, do not know anything about him] M. A. Prosser was born April 10, 1859 [Note: M. A. {Matt} md. Hi John: Your note regarding the subject family contained slightly different data that what I have collected from a Lincoln Co. TN researcher named Male Abbott Tucker of Fayetteville, TN, regarding Thomas H. Glidewell, Sr. (b. Abt 1789 in VA & d. in 1861 in MO) and his wife Susan Allen (b. 10 Mar 1785 in RI). They were apparently married in 1834 in Prudence Island, Newport, RI. Below is a copy of what I recorded in my notes regarding the source of my information. ----------------------------------------------------Extracted from Notes------------------------ Birth & Death: Data provided by Mabel Abbott Tucker of Fayetteville, TN. 10 Feb. 1990. Note: Thomas is mentioned in a book titled: Biographical and Historical Memories of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland and Hot Springs Counties, (of) Arkansas. Published by The Goodspeed Publishing Co., Chicago, Nashville and St. Louis. 1889. Note page 205... Photocopies of pages 205 and 206 were received from Ms. Lorene B. Wood, 170 Don Ray Way, Ooltewah, TN 37363, Sept. 1995. Note: According to the Goodspeed book referenced above, Thomas, Sr. and family moved to Lincoln Co. TN in 1823 from NC. He left there in 1857 and moved to Cape Girardeau, MO. He died there in 1861. His children are also listed in the referenced book. Guess I must be the odd ball here as none of my ancestors came from Chatham County. My Fosters came from the 96th district of SC. My Nichols supposedly came from Hertford, NC. My Bledsoes came from Wake county, NC. My Freemans came from Surrey, NC. My Roberts came from GA. Thomas and Susan Allen Glidewell were married in Wake County, NC, so I assume they came from there. My "Ridge" Simmons ancestors are "suspected" former Chatham Co., NC residents but I have yet to prove it. I know the Bagleys were from Chatham from the will of Henry Bagley 1801. Shirley, There are State campgrounds at Winchester about 30 miles away and one north of Lewisburg about 35 miles away. This one has a buffet style restaurant and is located on Duck River. There is also a TVA campground at Winchester. Both the campgrounds at Winchester are on Tims Ford Lake. There is also a commercial campground west of Fayetteville near I-65. I think it is a KOA. John
