Could someone post directions from the Best Western Hotel in Fayettville to the Morgan School in Petersburg, and from the hotel to the United Methodist Church. I've tried Map Quest... but, can't locate either place. I will be flying into Nashville mid morning on Friday, and driving down to Fayettville from there, and should arrive at the Best Western around 2:00 pm. Thanks, Bob Tobin
Cousins, I need your help. MapQuest has directions from Nashville Airport to Fayetteville by going down I-24 to US-231 then south to Fayetteville. That is a lot of towns and two land roads. Would it not be better to go over to I-65 from the airport, then south, exit on route 64, go east to Fayetteville? Looks like, from the Rand McNally road atlas, that I could take 40 west to I-65. I could be on the Freeway almost all of the way. Julia

Fall is in the air and there is no better place to welcome the fall season than in middle TN where my grandparents, and Dad were busy spent so many years getting the farm ready for winter. Everytime I go to PoGrab, the smells, memories, and friends always welcome me to the area. I've actually convinced my husband to attend the banquet with me on Saturday evening to meet all these cousins who get a share of my time on weekends (e-mail and mailing lists). Members: Polly Dodson tells me that Moore County is considering a history book like the Bedford County people just recently had published. I would like to see this as many of our ancestors were active in the early Moore County government. This might be a way that we can get more information compiled about our "Ridge" roots. Let's consider encouraging them and maybe "The Ridge" could have a corner in it. Look forward to seeing you! Bobby Prosser prossergenealogy@comcast.net
I did Polly. I ask for some thoughts from some other people, hopefully will know something later in the day. You always kept your bags packed Although you had no fame, and just for the fun of it Twice you changed your name. They say our name's from Europe Came state side on a ship Either they lost the passenger list Or granddad gave them the slip. I'm the only one looking Another searcher I can't find I pray (maybe that's his fathers name) As I go out of my mind. They said you had a headstone in a shady plot I've been there twenty times, and Can't even find the lot. You never wrote a letter Your Bible we can't find It's probably in some attic Out of sight and out of mind. You just married a .....Jackson And just to set the tone The other four were Sarahs And everyone a Jones. You cost me two fortunes One of which I did not have My wife, my house and Fido God, how I miss that yellow lab. Bobby, I have run into that question about Mary Ann Gunter before. She cannot be the same as the Mary (Polly) that was born to William Gunter and Phoebe because the dates are not right. Mary Ann was born in the 1790's while Polly was born in 1814 in TN. She married Malcom F. Hughes and they had Rebecca Ann in 1834 and Delina Nancy in 1837. Polly died about 1841 and these two little girls were raised by other family members. Also William Gunter's Will mentions his wife Phoebe and their children including "Polly Hughes". Also Malcom Hughes is listed as one of the Executers. In addition, his Will also mentions the two earlier sons, Joshua and Hiram. No other Mary is mentioned. The only explanation that I can offer is that Mary Ann could also have been born during William's first marriage in North Carolina along with Joshua and Hiram although I have no way of proving it. I have not had any luck in finding who his first wife was. Otherwise she might have been the daughter of another Gunter. There were quite a few of them in North Carolina and they are rather hard to sort out. Do you have a record of her marriage to Cornelius Sullivan ?? Sorry that I am not more help. Alice

My first ancestor in Tennessee was William Gunter, b. ca 1760 in NC and d. August 12, 1840 in Lincoln Co. TN. He first married in NC and this wife's name is unknown, and I do not know when or where she died. They had two sons, Joshua and Hiram. He arrived in Lincoln Co around 1812 since he is listed as buying land at that time. Joshua Gunter was born ca 1795 in NC and died December 1844 in Lincoln Co. Joshua's wife is unknown but their family was: John Wesley, William N., Franklin G., Claiborne, Elizabeth Ann, Susan Adeline, and Joseph. Hiram Gunter was born ca 1800 in NC and died November 15, 1871 in Lincoln Co. He married Lucy Maleer, b. 1804 in TN. Their children were: Alvessa, Martha, James R., Mary Elves, William Henry, Dyca Jane, Thomas J., Hiram Wolse, Lucy, and Susan Elizabeth. William Gunter's second wife was Phoebe Hodges Ruth. They married after 1803 because she married William Ruth on April 21, 1803 in Jefferson Co. TN. William Gunter and Phoebe's children were: Mary(Polly), William N., James, George Washington, and Rebecca. As you can see, I still have a few "unknowns" in there but I also have more information about some of the families listed above. Anyone with any additional information about any of these names, please let me hear from you. Alice
