How about mentioning the civilian area Capt Newbern was within when his military duty ended: U.S. Census > 1890 Veterans Schedules > Tennessee > Fayette > District 7 The area in TN to which Major Willian W. NEWBERN TN Cav had his duty terminated, was at 'Oakland, Tenn', which was listed as the TN post office address...wherever that was in 1865. This bit of information might have been near where he again began a 'normal' civilian life again where documents might be able to be found. It's great when a 'new' starting point to look for someone can be established.
