There is a Reif family living near the Trimbles in McCracken county, KY in 1880. Paducah is in this county. And there is a girl born about the same time as Leah but her name is Sarah. Sarah's birthplace is shown as Kentucky in 1870 & 1880. Her mother's birthplace is shown as TN in 1870 & 1880. Her father was born in Germany. I am inclined to believe that these are cousins of Leah's. I find no Leah in 1880 with a surname similar to Reif who matches your info or the 1900 & 1910 records. There is a Katie Rief in Henderson co KY in 1880 age 9 - father born Germany, mother born Kentucky. I also find no good candidate for Leah's mother in 1880 or 1870 - that is born in GA married to a man born in GER. The Matilda Unrath that you mentioned is a boarder in John W. Trimble's household in 1920. Generally they would have listed some relationship to the household head if they were indeed related - but not always. Leah is also listed in that census even though she is deceased. I think they were supposed to list people who were living on 1/1/1920 even though the census was taken later.
