I have access to census images but no index for 1850 census Can someone check in the 1850 Federal census in the state of TN (county unknown) for John Pitman b. abt 1828 James Pitman b. abt 1830 They are brothers and are not living at home with their parents. I believe both were married by the time of the 1850 census but do not have the names of their wives. Thanks --Marie Beckman

    2. There are several John, Joseph and J. Pittman/Pitman's about the right ages in 1850 in Tennessee (no Joes). How will you be sure which are the right ones if you don't know their wives names? Assuming they are living near each other you might try Bedford county, dist 25, page 271 for J. A. Pitman & J. L. Pitman.
