    3. Mary, The way David is listed, I don't think he is a son. I think his name is David Allen - a laborer. Just to be sure I looked in the 1840 and Eligah A. Newbel doesn't have a son age 13. In fact , he and his wife have no children living with them in 1840. 1. Re: [TN-CENSUS-LOOKUP] 1840 lookup unknown county/ William Dodd
    2. bill
    3. Mary, I have chased this one before but here is one in 1840. I ruled him out before because I thought the child was female and it could well be and just misstated on the census. That happened a lot with very young children: 1840 Bradley Co, Tn, page 64 William Dodd age 20 to 30 (was probably more like 16 or 17 if this is the right one) wife? age 15 to 20 son? age less than 5 In 1830 there are only 4 Dodd's in that general area-two Williams in McMinn, a William in Monroe and a James in Monroe. If your William was born before 1825 then 3 of the four are possibilities. If he was born after 1825 then only one is a possibility - one of the Williams in McMinn Co. Your going to have a hard time finding a marriage before 1850 in TN. None of the online sources will have that. I would try the Bradley county Genealogy website. At least one of their volunteers has the book "Early East Tennessee Marriages". I'm not sure it even goes back before 1850 but it might.
