Marie: Thanks . That is not the right one. Her year of birth was about 1831. She was his third wife and much younger. Presley Thornton died 1871 in Dyer Co., Tn so I suspect he is in Dyer, Benton or Gibson Co., Tn. census for 1870. May be listed in one of his son's hhs. His sons are George, Thomas, James, William and John.

With a first name like Sterlin/Sterling/Starling, I would tend to think that he would be easy to find, but without his father's name, that leaves me with a pretty wide range of options.
