Only the head of household is named on the 1840 census. The only John listed in Hardeman Co., TN is on page 292; John Purtle 1222001-111001. The only other John listed in TN is in Davidson Co., page 356; John Pirtle 0010001-10121. Seeking a Robert CROWDER on the 1830 TN census hopefully in Greene County, but at Ancestry there is a listing in Humphreys County that might be correct. Robert would be male age 20-29, maybe with a wife age 20-29, maybe 2 males age 0-4. Those are guesses as other people could also be in the household. Thank you. Thanks Cheryl: He would have been in Jefferson Co., Hamblen Co. or Anderson Co. I had not thought about Roane Co., but it is possible his oldest son William went into that Co. and Henry and wife Maria went there. Also possible he died and was taken back to Allamance Co. NC. Do you have any death notices.
