Dorothy; thanks for looking. Actually, this DOES provide some clues for me. Since he can't be found in 1850, this must mean that he had not made it back to TN after being left for dead in Mexico during the Mexican War. Since he can't be found in 1860, this must mean that he left TN for IL prior to the 1860 census. So, this has been helpful. Carol
