All censuses taken after 1930 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories - 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1930 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900. | CENSUS LOOKUPS HOME PAGE http://www.rootsweb.com/~censlook/ | | ============================== | Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration | Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. His father was Rufus Burton Smith married to Elizabeth Worley, i have they lived in Tennessee. Hammond Garland Smith was first married to my grandmother, Mittie Early Ainsworth born Taylorsville, Mississippi Jan 1, 1900. They had my mother Katherine Louise Smith in Oct of 1918, and then Margaret M Smith in Sept of 1920. Katherine was born in Hubert Arkansas, (what is now west Memphis), and Margaret M. Smith was born in Tennessee. I believe Mittie and Garland Smith divorced in the 1920's and he married a redheaded woman with the first or last name of Bell, and they also had children. I want to learn about my grandfather, and maybe find my relatives by his second marriage. I have been hunting for him for years to no avail. I was told he was living in Memphis Tennessee later on with his second wife. Any help would be very greatly appreciated! | , i | cannot find hide nor hair of him.
