    1. [REFUGEES] Testing Legacy with the new enhanced TMG GEDCOM option
    2. Neil Bell via
    3. Roots Magic has some real problems with the direct import of TMG. Too many for me right now. I did try the new enhanced GEDCOM from TMG as suggested earlier in the TMG list. It was very successful in bringing over all my census event witnesses with their assigned roles. I hear that Legacy is still working toward a direct import and would suggest that folks continue using TMG and trying out other options before making a final decision. Overall I found Legacy to work quite well for me, maintaining my TMG ID numbers was also very important to me. It is hard to be patient with all the notes concerning the "future" but TMG still works and we have time to make a decision that works for us. Haste does make waste and Windows 7 (for me anyway) works fine right now and runs my TMG9 , Legacy8 and RM6 also just fine. I personally think that Legacy will offer the best choice for me... time will tell. RM6 is a good program but the limitations for a TMG user are, for me, a real probkem. 1. Re: [REFUGEES] Comparing RM Direct Import vs Gedcom

    3. After reading some message on this list, I decided to compare imports between RootsMagic direct import and Gedcom 5.5 (Enhanced) - to see what worked best for me. I was looking at the Tags only - not at sources. I can not figure out why some tags imported and others did not - but overall, RootsMagic direct import was much better with importing Tags than Gedcom. I still have lots of work ahead of me - not all my Tags imported beautifully, but I was impressed that at times [M] imported to [Desc]. It’s a start. Here are my results - in case this helps anyone. (I am now comparing my TMG sentences to what actually imports using RM direct imports - and making some adjustments to my TMG sentences . And with TMG Utilities - you can get a list of how many times you use each Role. I’m amazed at how many times, I only use a role once. Time to start cleaning up my data.) ~ Barb The following Tags import the same for both. In both cases, my sentence didn’t import - both imports picked up the default sentence already in RootsMagic. Adoption Burial Death Education Marriage Occupation Probate. I looked at another 36 Tags and Gedcom did not import any of my sentences and at times, did not import the Tag. 12 Tags: sentence/fact left blank 10 Tags - did not import 12 Tags - sentence/fact stated: NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE. Examples: TMG Tag: Role TMG: Birth: Parent of son: <[D]> their son, [P], was born <in [L]> RM Direct Import: <[Date]> their son [Person], was born <in [Place]>. Gedcom Import: (Tag imported as fact, but sentence left blank) TMG: Burial: Interred: [P] is buried [L]. <[M]> [C] RM Direct Import: [Person] is buried [Place]. <[Desc]> [C]. Gedcom Import: (Did not import) TMG: Will - Left a Will: Principal: [P] left a will <[D]> <[L]> <[M]> RM Direct Import: [Person] left a will <[Date]> <[Place]> <[Desc]>. Gedcom Import: (Did not import) TMG: Married - Never: Principal: [P] never married <[M]> RM Direct Import: [Person] never married <[Desc]>. Gedcom Import: (tag imported as fact, but sentence stated NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE) TMG: Obituary: Principal: OBITUARY: [ITAL:][M1][:ITAL] RM Direct Import: OBITUARY: [M1] Gedcom Import: (tag imported as fact, but sentence stated NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE)
