Possibly a work around > would be to import to RM w/o Twp. and Co. in the names, fix the counties that need correcting in both places and then > import for good. I need to think on it. There are several cool (and closely related) features associated with place management in RM. They are not as well integrated as one might wish. County Check is the feature that raises the most controversy. It's the one that makes sure that county is valid and matches the time frame. It only works with standard place names. I have to turn County Check off because I do not use standard place names. If I don't turn County Check off, I get a very annoying error message every single time I enter a place. Gazetteer uses the same place names data base as County Check, but you can use Gazetteer to look things up even if you are not using standard place names. You can also copy and paste from Gazetteer into a place name field. If you copy and paste in this manner, you get a standard place name which you can "correct" to meet your own personal naming conventions before saving the name. This all works just fine with County Check turned off. I use Gazetteer a great deal. Geocoding uses the same place names database as County Check and Gazetteer. It associates GPS coordinates with place names. The data is not really available for reports, but it is available for several interesting mapping functions. These mapping functions use Bing rather than Google Maps because Bing is free to the RM developers and Google Maps is not. RM stores up to three different names associated with each place. The first is the way you enter the place name and is the way the place name is displayed. The second is a short place name. A short place name has to be entered manually. Having been entered manually, it may be displayed with [Place:short] in a sentence template. The third is the standard place name. This name can be entered only automatically by RM and only as a part of the geocoding process. The third never appears in reports. For many users, the first and the third are the same. For users such as me who do not use standard place names, the first and the third are never the same. Jerry
