    3. I would love to see tips to clean-up data. Here is my list - so far. Please let me know if my assumptions are wrong. I’m just trying to figure this all out, but it is a slow process. My Long List - is for importing to RootsMagic. Who knows, as things change, I may end up somewhere else. ~ Barb Short List: Create New Project without non-people Get Rid of Roles I don’t use Compare tags to other programs Learn more Long List: 1. I used someone’s idea and made a new TMG Project. I did this by first creating a new FLAG - and flagging all the people that I did not want to import. I then created a list of people of everyone else - and used the Option Feature: Secondary Output in TMG to create a new Project. This way, I had my old TMG Project that I could continue to use for Second Site and another Project to get ready to export to a new software program. In my new Project, I did not include my Non-People, that I use for Second Site. I had over 1000 non-people and it would have taken forever to delete them individually. I had people for Cemeteries - people for Censuses, people for Index-Research Names, etc… (Great suggestion - wish I could remember where I got it from.) 2. Print off Show Role Usage list from TMG Utilities - and get rid of the roles I don’t use - and make the necessary change to avoid using a role only one or two times. (I will probably make similar changes in my old TMG Project. Wish I would have realize before, that I could create this list using TMG Utilities) 3. Skip Census Sources: I don’t have to make any changes in my census sources that use split citations - because Tom Holden developed a SQLite script for Roots Magic that deals with my split citations. I tested it out and it worked great. Thanks Tom. He also developed a script to improve the sentences - “it includes the [PlaceDetails] addition and suppression of double prepositions for Date, Place, and PlaceDetails. I haven’t tested this yet, but it is on my list of things to do. (Learning how to run Scripts was a challenge, but fascinating on what the scripts will do. Need to learn more about scripts.) 4. Compare my custom tags to RootsMagic. I used TMG Utilities to do this . (Other - Export Data. Data to export: Sentences, Export format: HTML, Stylesheet: Grid) I was able to open this file in Excel. With this spreadsheet, I could easily compare the sentences to other programs. When I looked at a Tag/Role/Fact in RootsMagic, I would copy and paste the RM role into the spreadsheet - next to the one I imported. I also deleted from the spreadsheet - all of the Roles/Sentences I wasn’t using (Role usage count was from TMG Utilities) - and deleted all similar role/sentences - to get down to a manageable spreadsheet. 5. Things I have learned about importing to RM. (Not sure, what kind of adjustments I will make before importing.) a. Witness facts are attached to witness - not P1. b. It appears that RM adds parent witnesses to birth events, whether they appear or not in TMG. (I believe you can turn off this option in RM. I have tags that add the parents already - so I’m not sure if I’m going to delete my tags or turn off this option in RM) c. For the most part [M] is transferred to RM as [Desc] , but the memo value is copied to the RM notes and the description field is left blank. There are a few exceptions - such as Education and Occupation. d. <[D]> transfers to RM okay, but adds “.” (period) 6. If you are headed to RM - then watch the Webinar - Cleaning Your Family Tree in RootsMagic. Good ideas of what the program can do - and what you don’t have to worry about in your import. And with TMG Utilities - you can get a list of how many times you use each Role. I’m amazed at how many times, I only use a role once. Time to start cleaning up my data.) >> >> ~ Barb >> > *** > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TMG-REFUGEES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the message subject and body. > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TMG-REFUGEES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
