Greetings to everyone, and welcome to the list (and website.) Sorry for the long message but it's been a busy week for TMG refugees everywhere. I want to address a couple of things that have come up this week. I want to thank everyone for your contributions, and especially want to thank Barbara Levergood for her help organizing the site and getting content in place, and Tom Holden for his substantial contributions. Barbara has full admin access to the site, in case I'm not available, but all of you have full write access if you're subscribed (if not, why not?) We are undergoing some growing pains. We're over 100 members now. I'm attending to your admin requests as quickly as I can, and Barbara L stands by to help you add any content you think should go up. We are learning as we go, so please be generous minded and patient with any perceived slip-ups. Please report any anomalies you find so we can check them. Many of you saw the message yesterday about possible bad links on the website. It does seem we had some, but they were inadvertent, and they've been cleaned up (thanks, Tom!) We are monitoring all changes to the website (you can too, it's entirely open). Of necessity, with a collaborative effort such as we have, there is some risk that someone will insert a bad link or worse, and we'll be working on some guidelines that should help you check for the most common problems. But that said, your contributions are welcome, and don't worry about making a mistake. We're tolerant of mistakes. I strongly believe that each of you has something add to this effort, if only your questions, so I don't want to close the website unless I have to. It is a calculated risk. To answer the question yesterday, you each need to use your own judgement about sharing the site, and make anyone you share it with aware as well. Be assured that we are taking backups, we are checking links, we are monitoring page activity so that if someone chooses to abuse the write privilege, we can recover quickly and gracefully. If someone does attack the site, we'll re-evaluate the policy and you will know about it. I am comparing subscriptions to the Rootsweb mailing list with requests for access to the website to try to prevent malicious access. I understand not everyone falls into the one-email-address category, so if for some reason I need to confirm your email or status, please respond to my query emails timely so I can establish you're a real person and not an evil bot. As stated on both the mailing list and the website, contributions are expected to be factual and neutral. I appreciate the strong emotion that this stuff can raise, but as with Wikipedia, this isn't the place for advocacy. If someone edits your material and you have an issue with it, please try first to resolve it with the editor; if not, please contact me. There will be some housekeeping details going into the website shortly. If you have a page, or create a page, please use the established templates so that you pick up the latest details. You can expect the site to continue to evolve, as we try to make it as useful and as easy to use as possible. Your ideas are welcome; drop Barbara L and/or me a line! -- Barbara Zanzig TMG-REFUGEES list admin admin email: *TMG-REFUGEES-admin@rootsweb.com <TMG-REFUGEES-admin@rootsweb.com>* list address: *http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/TMG-REFUGEES.html <http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/TMG-REFUGEES.html>* list website: *https://sites.google.com/site/tmgrefugees <https://sites.google.com/site/tmgrefugees>*
