Where can I find a manual for TMG 9? I guess it is not printed (yet)? — Kurt Hansen
I suggest going here: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/forum/120-the-master-genealogist-v9/ and doing a lot of reading. If you have specific questions, there is a huge base of information on this list and we will be able to assist you. Contance
Terry’s Tips is a great starting point. http://tmg.reigelridge.com/ <http://tmg.reigelridge.com/> So is his book, but I do not know if it is still available for purchase. The Arlington RUG’s website contains lots of presentations. Older ones are in PowerPoint, pdf or a word processing program. Recent programs are recorded. All of the newsletters back to the stone age are available, too. To have access to the full site you need to be a member which is pretty cheap. Thanks, Jan, Yes, the book is still available for purchase, and a few people are still buying it. Links are at https://reigelridge.com/press/primer.shtml However the cost of shipping to Europe, where I think Kurk is, is a bit steep. Terry
I don't know how people dare sell their copy, but second hand copies if Terry's book "A Primer for the Master Genealogist" are available in the UK through Amazon.co.uk Bobh

A PDF manual for version 4 was furnished but no version since then has a PDF manual. With v5, "Getting the Most out of Then Master Genealogist" (GMOTMG) was published in 2004. This was aimed at the "intermediate" user though the beginner was well considered and even had some more advanced material. It was digitized into PDF form in 2007 on a CD. The majority of GMOTMG is still current as TMG functions have not really changed although new features were added. We considered publishing a second edition, but decided there was not enough new material to warrant it. There may be copies of these available somewhere. In 2008, Terry Reigel published his "A Primer for The Master Genealogist". It was addressed more to the beginning user though it has some more advanced material as well. Terry may still have copies for sale -- see his web site at <http://tmg.reigelridge.com/>. Finally, you do realize that TMG has been discontinued and no further development is being made? This occurred in 2014 with the final update issued in Sep 2015 and all technical support ending on 31 Dec 2014. While Wholly Genes has gone out of business, its web site <http://www.whollygenes.com/> is still operating for now and many user go there for assistance from other users. This mailing list and some others are good places to ask questions. There are other resources -- Terry's web site above, and mine at <www.tmgtips.com>. Lee
There are two copies on The Master Genealogist 5.x User's Guide available now on Amazon for $11 with shipping. As others have noted, there have not been a lot of changes since it was published in 2003. I even have an extra copy that I would be willing to sell. I also have a copy of the PDF that was published in 2008. And, I have copies of the 4 TMG DVDs that I ripped for my own use. I wonder if Bob or someone from Wholly Genes would allow these to be shared? Walter, I'm pretty sure copyright laws prohibit sharing copies of PDFs or DVD media. You could possibly sell or give away your ORIGINAL DVDs, but not the copies or the PDF. Kurt, First, a "paper" reference manual was discontinued when additional effort was put into the HELP system which comes with the program. Contrary to many programs I think it really is very good, and should be your first place to look. As others have said, Terry's Tips is an excellent beginning tutorial, and is especially a good place to look when starting to use a TMG feature you haven't used before. Finally, if you get really deep into customizing TMG and want some advanced discussions about how to do non-standard things, see my on-line book: https://www.mjh-nm.net/#MyWay
