Hello. Just wondering......two questions: 1 about accents.... I have different flags of course ,and wonder if it possible to use one accent file for all my projects if I desire to? And how to do that without messing up on other projects??. I have 18 projects (not included the sample project) ,and 41 acc files..... I am sure some of those acc files are not in use ,but how do I find out which acc files are not in use and which acc files that are corrupted or can be deleted etc?. I really don`t think I will go deleting any acc files right away!!....(I have noticed that when deleting some projects ,it is left about 3 acc files to that project....) 2 I know it is possible to run two or three different projects at a time in TMG ,but is that advisable to do? What if you ,let`s say, have two different projects up running at the same time ,and you run maintenance on one ,and entering some people into the other project..... Would working in one project while doing maintenance on the other project cause any damamge or etc?? I am doing maintenance on all my projects now and backing them up......and on one of the projects (now free for errors!!) TMG corrected about 4500 potensial errors) Thanks , Erik

There is generally no issue with doing so. You can even open the same database in multiple copies of TMG if you wish. TMG uses dBase based record locking to avoid conflicts when you do so, which will block you from trying to edit the same record in two separate copies of TMG at once. This locking will also keep you from running the maintenance routines if another copy of TMG has that database open, so avoids the issue you are thinking of. -- Richard Damon

If I am going to have one accent for all the projects ,I now realize I have to also have the same flag setup in all projects. Because of that ,I guess it would be better to not have only one accent for all projects. .......but it would still be interesting to delete the accents which is not in use or corrupted in any way!! Erik, As Rickard said, Accents using custom Flags do not recognize the Flags by their names but by internal reference IDs that we cannot see. These IDs will not necessarily be the same for custom Flags of the same name in a different Project, so you may not get the expected result using Accents from a different Project if they use custom Flags. There should not be a problem if the Accents use standard Flags, but I don't think that's what you mean. Terry Reigel

I often will have one TMG project running and active while another is running and inactive. Whether I am editing a record or just looking through a project makes no difference to the other project. Consider it this way. Suppose you have two different computer with each having TMG running with a different project. You get up from one and go sit at the other. That does not make any difference to the first computer. On the other hand, if you have two instances of TMG open with the same project, the only difference will be what record is being worked on. If you open the Person View of ID# 281 in one instance and open the Birth Tag (just to look at it), Then you switch to the second instance of TMG and go to the same ID#281m and attempt to open the same Birth Tag then you will get a notice that the Tag is open somewhere else. You can then tel TMG not to open the Tag (and go do something else) or have TMG open the Tag anyway. TMG wiil then open the Tag, but will not allow any changes as the Tag is "locked" by the other instance.. If the two (or more) instances of TMG have different projects open, then you will not see any "locked" record as TMG keeps the data files completely separate, Lee

I have set the language to Norwegian ,and have created at least two flags with accents on to sort out ancestors and flagging people who I will later split out to other projects. I am currently using the same accents file for two projects ,but had to establish the same flags in both before I could use that acc file.

Erik, The Standard Flags are Sex, Living, Adopted, Birth Order, and Multiple Birth. While you can change the names of them when you use a Language other than English (US), the are still "standard" Flags. Any other Flags are custom flags. Verify that any Accents using them are giving the correct results. I suspect, but haven't verified, that if you create your custom Flags in the same order in both projects the Accents will work correctly, but if you create them in different order the Accents will be wrong. In the same order as well?. It seems to me that I just had to have the same custom flags in an other project in order to use the accent file from another project.....no matter which order. When you say "accents will be wrong" ,do you mean that the accents will change color/places or so?. Wouldn`t it then just be to move up or down on the accents menu? ,or edit those accents for the project that gets the wrong accents?.

Generally, the answer is no. The only real question is the capacity (the resources) of your computer. This applies to how many programs (tasks) you are running -- not just TMG. You might have an e-mail client, a couple instances of TMG, a spreadsheet, a work processor, Windows Explorer, and more running. Mostly, your computer will manage the tasks as needed without you noticing anything. Inactive tasks will be temporarily written to your hard drive while another is active then the current active task will be written to the hard drive when you select an inactive task to be active.. Theoretically, when you switch between tasks, you will not notice anything. An active tasks is an active task. Now one task may require slightly more computer resources at any given moment (be it a second, a micro-second or even a nano-second). But, that changes as you select to edit, navigate tyo another person, or whatever. Lee
