I am only now discovering how to use many of the features of TMG -something I wish I had learned a decade ago. I have version 7 not realizing I should have updated before the business ended. Although this seems a basic question, I am frustrated in finding an answer. I've been printing out Family Group Sheet reports to PDF (since none of the file options besides TXT will work for me and that loses any formatting). The only option that works that for me to print the accompanying citations is to run a second Endnotes report after every FGS report. 1) Is there a way to get the endnotes to print with the FGS? 2) Or if that is the only way to do it, is there a way to have a title that indicates which FGS it is supposed to accompany? 3) If I were to accumulate endnotes, do they come out as separate reports that begin at 1 again? (If that makes sense.) Many thanks for any answers! Sharon
Sharon, I suggest you contact Harry Goegebeur. He has TMG v9 licenses available. TMG v9 has several advantages over TMG v7, and it's more likely to work smoothly in the current version of MS Windows. If you are interested, contact me off-list and I will provide you with Harry's email address. John

Sharon, Yes. As John says, update to TMG9. In the "new" report writer released in TMG8 the footnotes or endnotes were combined with the associated report. Terry Reigel

(If that makes sense.) Have you tried creating the report by using a destination of File with a File Type of RTF? An RTF file will include any footnote or endnotes Accumulated notes continue the numbering. Lee

This sounds like you are selecting one individual, generating the FGS, then selecting another individual and generating that FGS. If so, it may be better to create either a filter or focus group to select all the individuals for which you want FGSs. That way, the end-notes should be consolidated for the entire batch, and thereby numbered sequentially. {I just tried <control-click> picking three individuals from the project explorer, FGS options for ENDNOTES. Generation to screen produced three pages of FGS with two pages of endnotes; no need for a second end note report. The TMG PDF driver never worked for me, but setting output to Printer and picking the M$ Print to PDF [Win10 optional feature] produced the same 5 page PDF file} >1) Is there a way to get the endnotes to print with the FGS? They do for me... AH! TMG v9 -- no separate Endnote report is available. So the above may not apply to TMG v7.
Sharon wrote: > I have version 7 ... Hi Sharon, I will join others who have encouraged you to get Version 9 while you still can. One of the main reasons is exactly your issue. There is a link to Harry's email on the WhollyGenes forum post which identifies the final installers for Version 9 of TMG: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?/topic/15915-tmg9-final-installers-v905/ It may take him a while to reply, but be patient. Although he is in Europe you can complete the transaction on-line and then download the installer mentioned above. Version 8 included a complete rewrite of the report generator. The earlier versions of TMG were built on 16-bit code libraries which would not work in the newer versions of Windows. One of the enhancements it included was to append the endnotes with reports and not gather them in a separate report. > 1) Is there a way to get the endnotes to print with the FGS? I haven't used Version 7 in some time, but I opened my copy and tried it. If the FGS is sent to a file, like RTF which I also recommend, endnotes are automatically placed at the end. If the report is sent to the printer, then it creates a separate file/report for the endnotes which must be dealt with separately. > 2) is there a way to have a title that indicates which FGS... Look in V7 TMG HELP in the topic "Report Options: General Tab". You will see a list of variables which you can include in the Report title which is defined on that tab. [F] is the focus person which would probably be appropriate in the title of an FGS report. That helps with the title of the report itself, but the Endnotes still has a title of only the one word Endnotes. > 3) If I were to accumulate endnotes, do they come out as separate > reports that begin at 1 again? (If that makes sense.) I believe so, and as separate pages. Again, if possible, get a copy of Version 9 while you still can. In addition to the new report writer there are many enhancements and bug fixes which most of us find valuable. Michael
Thank you for the good advice that I can still update to version 9. I had just waited too long to update before Wholly Genes closed. Like all of you, I was holding out as long as I could. As noted, I've been frustrated with v7 and hopefully it will work out better if I can update to v9. Sharon On 2/9/2019 5:25 PM, Michael J. Glad you are upgrading now. The failure of many folks to update to versions 8 and 9 was a part of the reason behind the demise of Wholly Genes, along with Bob’s health and the fact that the underlying database FoxPro was not going to be supported by Microsoft after that year...
