    1. [TMG] Finding non-excluded Citations
    2. Terry Reigel
    3. I sometimes find a source that is clearly a derivative of an earlier source. If I can't find the original at the time I may cite the derivative source. If I later find the original I cite it and exclude the citations to the derivative. I'm doing that now with a source I found some time ago and would like to be sure I've excluded all the citations to the derivative source. I can't find a report to identify citations that have or have not been excluded. Is there a filter that will find them? Terry Reigel

    3. Gosh, Terry, I also exclude such citations but never thought about searching for them. On a quick check I can't (yet?) find a way either. I even looked at TMGU with its actions on Citations and tried to set its filter to Source Number is less than zero, but no matches so no help. As I am sure you noticed, if the Report Options are set to show excluded citations there is nothing to distinquish them from unexcluded. At the moment my only suggestion is to run two reports to Word, one where you do and one where you do not show excluded citations. Then use the Word facility to show the differences between the two reports. Let us know if you discover something better, Michael

Michael, In the TMG user interface, setting the source number to a negative value indicates the citation is excluded. In the database, however, there is a separate data field. If the user interface mimicked the database, there would be a separate checkbox for included/excluded. The source number field is never less than zero in a valid database. In TMGU, the filter evaluates the actual source number and does not check the S.EXCLUDE field to see if the citation is excluded. I could add a separate filter term, but no such term is available now. John
