In fact, if you still have the two separately, I'd consider going back to that configuration and working from there. If you want to work from the combined version, you will have to manually merge each pair of individuals. For each pair, you can decide in the Merge Person screen which Tags from each to keep. If the two duplicate Tags each have valuable information, like source citations or details not on the other, you need to keep both Tags and then manually transfer the information to one of them, then delete the other. If there are very many people it is a huge job. Some tricks that might helps: 1. Set Accents based on the Flag(s) that differentiate them, which will help to identify each set. 2. To copy Citations from one Tag to another, open the citation in one Tag (you can use F5), then close it (can use F9). This saves the citation to the "repeat list." Then open the other tag, press F4 to open a new citation, then F3 to recall the saved citation. Terry Reigel

I could separate the two groups out into two data sets if that would make the merge of the individuals easier. I would be happy to just pick up all the tags and flags and other data from both. It is the linkages (parents, children, siblings) that I would love to automate somehow. David, and Nancy My suggestion would be to separate the two trees into separate Data Sets. If you did that you could Copy the people who do not appear in one of the Data Sets into that data set. If there are groups of linked people to copy do them as a group to keep the links. If groups you copy separately have citations to the same source you will get multiple copies of that source, to the larger each group is (that is, the fewer copy operations) the fewer duplicate sources you will have to merge. You will have to manually create the links between the new people you copy in and those already in the Data Set. You will then need to copy each person who appears in both trees to see if there are details, including citations to copy over. Dates and places can be transferred using standard Windows copy and paste method. It would probably help to open two copies of TMG to the same project as you do this so you can view the same person in both data sets at the same time. In order do this in an orderly fashion I would create a "Cleaned" flag and set an accent based on it to keep track of who has been reviewed. Terry
