    1. [TMG] Changing the "unknown spouse" output in reports?
    2. Ann Carson via
    3. Hi all I'm wondering whether I can change this output in a similar way to using the Narrative Child tag? The main thing I'd like to do is have "unknown partner" as an output option. Is this possible? Ann

    3. The "unknown person" wording in narrative reports is produced when you have a marriage with only one person assigned to the marriage tag. Is this the "unknown person" wording you wish to change to "unknown partner?" If so, there isn't an equivalent to the Narrative Children tag that will make this change. But there are at least two other ways to do it. Method A: Create a new, unrelated person with surname "an unknown partner." Enter an exclusion mark (hyphen) as the given name. Use this person as the spouse for any people for whom you want the narrative report to read like "He married an unknown partner." You may need to have two such dummy people, one male and one female. Method B: Create a new role in the Marriage tag with sentence structure "[P] married an unknown partner." On any marriage tags for which you wish to use this wording, choose this role in the drop-down list to the left of the person's name. -----Original Message----- From: tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ann Carson via Sent: Monday, November 02, 2015 7:39 PM To: TMG@rootsweb.com Subject: [TMG] Changing the "unknown spouse" output in reports? Ann, Where, exactly, are you seeing this? I had assumed, since you mention the NarrativeChild tag, it was in the list of children in a Journal when you have children when only one parent is recorded. But it doesn't occur there in my testing. Are you referring to the output of the Marriage Tag, as Donald is thinking? If so, working with that Tag as he suggests is the solution. Terry Reigel

    3. Thanks very much Terry and Donald. Yes, I guess it is the output for the marriage tag in journal reports that I'm trying to change, where I don't know the father of a child, or the family doesn't wish to include him in reports - so I'll follow Donald's suggestions and options. I'd actually like to have no output at all sometimes so I guess that's just a different role/no sentence. I did think that I was getting an "unknown spouse" listed in descendant charts for any child whose father isn't in TMG but will double check that. These charts aren't so significant for my purposes. Thank you both again Ann -----Original Message----- From: tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tmg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Terry Reigel via Sent: Wednesday, 4 November 2015 10:38 AM To: tmg@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TMG] Changing the "unknown spouse" output in reports?
