There's also, I believe, a Windows limit on the overall path length. With a path such as the default C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v9 leave relatively little room for a filename. Yes, the Windows path length limit is 256 characters - see my original message - (or technically 260 with driveletter:\ and a null character at the end). In Windows 7, my path is D:\Users\username\Documents\The Master Genealogist v9\Configuration_files\. I make that 75 before the filename, leaving plenty before hitting 260.
