Lee et al, I do something similar, but I do not use parent/child relationships. For my "Bezanson" surname research, I have a pseudo-person named "Orphan Bezanson". When I encounter someone (or someone and his family) that I cannot link to the existing tree, I add an "Orphan" custom tag where P1 is "Orphan Bezanson" and P2 is the person that I can't yet link to a Bezanson parent. With this setup, I can go to "Orphan Bezanson" and see a list of events that pseudo-person shares with all the so-called orphans, so I have an easy to use collection of research problems to investigate and solve. For my Orphan tag, I have three roles: Collection (for the P1 pseudo-person), Orphan (for the person whose connection/parents are unknown), and Solved (for ex-orphans). I use some sentences for those roles that are configured to support my Bezanson web site. Collection: [:CR:][:CR:][:NP:][:TAB:]<[R:Orphan]><[BOLD:]Solved:[:BOLD] [R:Solved]>< ([LSPO])><[M0]> Orphan: I have not discovered [SFS] connection to the known [RL:Collection] lineage <[M]> Solved: I learned [SFS] connection to the known [RL:Collection] lineage <[M]> Note that [LSPO] is a sentence variable that is only supported by Second Site, and not by TMG. It produces a lifespan. It's not necessary but makes my SS-produced index more useful. To see the system in action, go to this page: http://bezansons.com/ui48.htm That page is a "Custom Index" in Second Site that is essentially a list of the events for "Orphan Bezanson". (That pseudo person is not part of the site otherwise.) The list uses the "Collection" sentence above because that is Orphan Bezanson's role in all the shared events. Those shared events also appear in the person page entries for the people listed. Note the entry for Derek Adrian N. Bezanson. He is marked as "Solved". If you click the link to go to his person page entry, you'll see a note at the top that gives credit to John Cordes, the fellow-researcher (and TMG user!) who helped me resolve how Derek connected to the tree. I hope this helps or provides inspiration. John
