Michael Thanks for the reply. I am using TMG 9.05.0000 TMGU 7.3 build 3 My full footnote template is (all templates and results are copy and paste) "[TITLE]," [RECORD TYPE], [ITAL:][PUBLISHER][:ITAL] ([URL]<: accessed [CD3]>), entry for <[CD1]> and< [CD2]><, married [CD4]>; citing< [ORIGINAL PUBLISHER]>< "[SHORT TITLE]";>< [CD5]><; [CD6]>. Neither ORIGINAL PUBLISHER nor SHORT TITLE are populated in this particular Source, but even if they are populated (using a quick X and Y to populate them) the results are the same when CD5 is empty. My citation detail is (copy and paste - note the space in CD5) Robert V L Haxby||Alice E Ozias||29 April 2012||5 November 1910|| ||FHL microfilm 1380445 Which produces (using a Family Group Sheet or Individual Detail reports) "Minnesota, Marriages, 1849-1950," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org: accessed 29 April 2012), entry for Robert V L Haxby and Alice E Ozias, married 5 November 1910; citing; FHL microfilm 1380445. My short footnote template is "[TITLE]," [RECORD TYPE], record for [CD1] and [CD2]<, married [CD5]> citing< [ORIGINAL PUBLISHER]>< "[SHORT TITLE]";>< [CD5]><, [CD6]>. Which produces "Minnesota, Marriages, 1849-1950," database, record for Robert V L Haxby and Alice E Ozias citing, FHL microfilm 1380445. If I change my citation detail to not include a space for CD5 thus Robert V L Haxby||Alice E Ozias||29 April 2012||5 November 1910||||FHL microfilm 1380445 It produces "Minnesota, Marriages, 1849-1950," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org: accessed 29 April 2012), entry for Robert V L Haxby and Alice E Ozias, married 5 November 1910; citing. And the short footnote produces "Minnesota, Marriages, 1849-1950," database, record for Robert V L Haxby and Alice E Ozias citing. Your suggestion to use the escape character '\ ' did not work nor does using two spaces. Since your experience is different it would appear that there is something in my template that is causing the behavior but I have been unable to figure it out as to what that would be. Also I tried TMGU commands append and prepend but neither worked. I also tried ASCII character 255 but that also did not work. Tom
