    1. [TMG] OT - Cheap MFP or scanner?
    2. Pam Wood Waugh via
    3. Has anyone purchased a cheap MFP that scans old photos and docs pretty well? Wading through reviews but none mention much about the scanning. I'm not sure if I should just get a Canon scanner, instead. I don't really need a good printer - my husband has one in his office, but I would like an inexpensive MFP for my office just for an occasional printout but mostly for scanning. I have hundreds of old photos I just inherited and would like to get them done rather quickly. Anyone purchased one lately for under $100? Pam

    3. I use an Epson WF-2540 MFP at home and it has most of the bells and whistles. They cost a tad over $100 dollars although Google came up with a refurbished one for $73.99 on eBay. 3. I use a Canon Lide210 scanner. It is a portable model that I can travel with. It doesn't have an electric plug it get it power from the computer. I think it cost about $30 when I bought it a couple of years ago. I think this is about the 3rd Lide I've had over the years. I had to upgrade once because the old Lide wasn't compatible with a new version of windows. The next upgrade was because the one I have now was on sale and my husband wanted a scanner. He got the old one and I got the new one. <g> It's nice when visiting a relative to be able to scan photos they have. 3. I, too, have an older LIDE which served me well when I went to visit family and unexpectedly was presented with my aunt’s photo album with pictures of my dad I’d never seen. I ran right over to Best Buy and bought the LIDE which fit in my computer bag with my laptop. But what I’d like to mention now is that if you decide to go with a flatbed scanner, pick up Photoshop Elements, which has a feature where you can put as many photos on the glass as will fit, leaving a margin around each one, and PSE will separate them into individual files. A big time saver! It might cost about the same as the scanner LOL but think about what your time is worth. Take it from someone who has scanned a lot of photos, it was worth it to me.
