Besides using up MORE disk space? Unless you routinely use emails with embedded graphics, saving them as plain text should be the most efficient and portable format (you can cut&paste the text -- can't do that with a "screen grab" which is what JPEG would constitute). This message (prior to adding this and following paragraph, and stripping the rest of your comments) makes a 4kB TXT file, or a 4kB RTF file. Exporting the RTF from Word as a PDF generated a 53kB file. Granted M$ Word probably stuffs a lot of boilerplate (and maybe the font file too) in there, and then tries to compress the data. Pity I've never managed to get the Corel PDF Fusion program to work properly (all I manage to get working is the manipulation of PDF files to combine or split them -- no file converter seems to work, nor does the supposed PDF printer module). Loading the 2-page PDF into Photoshop (where it comes in at 300PPI print resolution) and saving as a quality 10 (out of 12) JPEG resulted in the FIRST PAGE ONLY consuming 722kB. -- bieber.genealogy@earthlink.net Dennis Lee Bieber HTTP://home.earthlink.net/~bieber.genealogy/
