Pam, I recently bought a Canon MG6620, which is probably the newer model of the 6320 that another poster mentioned. It was only $60 or $75 on a promotion and I've seen that it is still being promoted. I've been scanning a lot of old pictures and it does a great job. I don't like the software, but I just go straight to the scanner without using their software and it works fine. I got mine at Office Depot or Staples. I also have a Lide 210 that someone else mentioned. It works great also. I sometimes travel with it as it doesn't need to be plugged in to a power outlet, is light weight and very portable. It gets power from my laptop via USB. It's good for car trips where you are visiting homes or libraries with your laptop but for airplane trips, it is probably a little big. Until I bought the MG6620, I used the Lide exclusively as my husband had confiscated my MFP to his office after his printed died. My favorite for traveling is the Flip Pal! It does not need a computer. It scans directly to a SD card and is only a little larger than a iPad mini. My favorite thing about it is that you can just flip it over and lay it on photos in an album, newspaper, etc without removing them from the album or frame or whatever. It has a small 'bed' but if you scan anything larger than 4 x 6, you just scan it in overlapping sections and then stitch them together at home. (it comes with software to do this, but I use photoshop instead) I've done great 16 x 20's this way. You can choose color or BW and choose 300 or 600 dpi. Yes, it has it's drawbacks, but for traveling without a computer, it is great. Also handy for sitting in front of the TV and scanning those 1000's of family snapshots. An add on, is a little plexiglass sheet that you can lay over the picture & write on with a grease pencil identifying the people in a group. Scan once with the overlay and then without. When you get home you know who the people are and any comments you made about the picture.
