After writing my message last night I was falling asleep and suddenly realized that I had not set the flag for any of the three witnesses (R:Ward) in my project. Problem solved - if you want a complete sentence you must included the witnesses in the data or Second Site will not be able to reference them and thus produce the dreaded "an unknown person" Tom

You can improve your results by using conditional references. So, for example, change: [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian for [R:Ward] on [D] at [L] ... to: [R:Guardian] was appointed guardian <for [R:Ward]><on [D]><at [L]> That will avoid having "unknown person", "unknown date", and "unknown location" when one or more of the data items are not specified. John has described another solution - make the reference conditional so the name can be omitted without the "unknown person" phrase. There is a third, which allows the name to be included without including the person in the site. You can change the settings in the Data > People section. On the "Show when Witness to Event" line, check the box(es) so that Excluded people are shown. Note that this solution applies to everyone, not just this one Tag, so be aware of possible unintended consequences for other Tags. Terry Reigel
