Hi I have just proved that even today with no further updates to TMG, it is still the ONLY program out there. I have always used TMG for my major database, and then once a month, via the use of Flags, take those updated people and then merge them to my FTM2017 file so that it can then sync to Ancestry. Thank goodness I have never taken it out of TMG. But just recently I started to make a few very small family trees of my cousin's families etc, all due to DNA and Ancestry trees. So I did this totally in FTM2017 - lots of things I was never happy about using FTM but it was only serving the purpose of the online trees, basic BDM and these were families not completely related to me or my family. But today, I had finished doing a family line of which I now have decided I wanted to put into booklet format and take with me overseas for my cousins in NZ, so have a month left to do editing, printing etc - all good so far. Had discovered that FTM will only export reports to RTF or PDF - neither of which will suit my purpose. I wanted the files to be in Word format so that I can edit, move and place the photos how I want etc, plus make nice indexes etc. So thought I would just Gedcom (I know it is not the greatest but at least would do the purpose), the family into TMG. First error was that TMG cannot accept the UFT-8 unicode - overcame that by re reading Dorothy's workaround in the help file of TMG So the import of the 187 people went well after changing from Unicode to Anis. But what a mess - so now editing each person in TMG before I can then sent to word as journal report. I created a new project for this family. Even though this family was set up as not intending to be put into a booklet format - its purpose has completely turned around. So from now on, I will do all families in TMG, and then export them to FTM2017 so that I can then sync with Ancestry when required. Would have saved me so so much time, which is now all wasted. I have not come across any other Genealogical program out there that I know of yet, that will send the reports to Word - Does anyone know of any ??? At least this is only a small family and mostly just BDM information, so should not take me too long to get into some sort of order. But just thought if others are considering the same angle - forget it, stay with TMG as long as you can as it still is the best and most versatile genealogical program out there.
