I have a fairly large project that contains two data sets. Set A, contains 28.5 thousand people. Set B contains fewer than 100 people. I created data set B to explore a possible ancestry for a woman in data set A. I'm now satisfied that the woman's ancestry as set forth in data set B is correct and I would like to addher data set B ancestry to her in data set A. It appears that the only way to do this is to merge the two data sets but, given the work I have done over the years creating the 28.5 thousand people in data set A, I'm reluctant to take the merge data sets step for fear of loosing everything. I know I will have to back up my project before doing the merge but, is there anything else I have to worry about? I use a cloud backup called Carbonite and I seem to remember warnings about cloud backups and TMG. I'm using TMG 9.05 and Windows 7 64 bit professional. Thanks, John Wood

I'm using TMG 9.05 and Windows 7 64 bit professional. No TMG data folders should be included as part of the Carbonite cloud mapping. And when you create a TMG Backup, let it backup to the Backup folder in the TMG data folder (usually the User Directory (see the Data File Storage topic in TMG Help. After the TMG Backup SQZ file has been created, you may copy that file from the TMG Backup folder to a Carbonite protected folder or any external drive such as a thumbdrive.. As for the merging of date set B into data set A, you should not have any problems. I do this all the time. After the merge is complete, you will want to review data set A for persons that are now duplicates. You will want to merge each set of duplicates. After a duplicate set is merged, you will want to review the merged person and combine duplicate Tags. There is no merge Tag feature, so you will need to look at one Tag (call it Tag A)and add any "new" data to its duplicate (Tag B) and then delete Tag A. Be sure that you copy all data from Tag A to Tag B including Source Citations/Citation Details. Don't forget Witnesses. Keep in mind that both data sets have different Sources, Repositories, places, etc. So, you may want to do some cleanup in this area as well in data set A. Some of the Sources from data set B may be the same as data set A, so these can be merged. Similarly, Repositories. Once you have merge data sets, persons, Sources, Repositories, and combined Tags in the merged persons and all is OK, go to the Data Set Manager and delete data set B. I often find a few minor cleanup things for the next few days, but this pretty much completes the job.
