    1. [TMG] Place list - Comment field

    3. I have been experimenting with place mapping over the past few days, with both SecondSite and GedSite. I have been very late coming to place mapping myself, but am getting more and more intrigued by it. As others have remarked it can get quite addictive! In SS I have, in Data -> Places: Place Levels 3 through 6 checked; Use Place Style and Use Icon for Links both checked, Only Places with LatLong is unchecked. Google Maps and StreetMap (UK only) are checked. Today, in a SS build of my TMG database I noticed for the first time that one place (Malagash, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia) had a superscript icon "i" beside it in the Master Place Index generated by SS. Clicking that led to a page (pi555.htm) with the rather mysterious sole content: (Wallace Methodist Circuit) That is the only pixxx.htm file in the SS make-site log. I checked the person details for some likely individuals in TMG but could find nothing which would lead to this. However, in TMG's Master Place List the above parenthetic phrase does appear in the Comment field by one of the entries for the town of Malagash. Selecting edit on that place record shows that there is indeed a box for entering a Comment, which contains the above phrase. The place style is U.S. Standard Place. I cannot find anything in TMG about entering (or removing!) such a Comment for a place. The only thing I can think of is that this came along when some years ago I imported records from my sister-in-law's FTM file, which certainly had material in strange places from the perspective of a TMG user. [As a side comment I have since got her switched over to using RootsMagic and am now using GedSite to generate web pages for her material. I never again want to go through the hassle of all the cleanup (but still incomplete) I did after that import from FTM.] Would anybody be able to confirm that such a thing can happen? I.E. Could importing from FTM, or perhaps other programs, lead to entries in a Place Comment field? I have just inserted a leading "-" in front of that Comment, using the Master Place List, so the 'info icon' shouldn't appear again in SecondSite. Thanks! John Cordes P.S. I really appreciate Terry Reigel's wonderful article about mapping in Second Site: http://tmg.reigelridge.com/SecondSite-map-links.htm Full of tremendously useful ideas and suggestions.

    3. You can edit the Comment by finding the place in the Master Place List, and selecting it and then Edit. I have been placing a lot of comments into my places.
