    3. Thanks John, As usual your explanations are clear Afina ------------- Afina Broekman [email protected] website: http://dutchgenie.net blog: http://dutchgenie.net/wordpress/ ________________________________ From: TMG <[email protected]> on behalf of John Cardinal <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 12, 2018 1:42 PM To: 'The Master Genealogist Rootsweb Email List' Subject: Re: [TMG] Place list and Maps Afina, When creating the master place index, SS merges places that have the same part values. Because you told SS to include parts that are single-excluded (that's what "Show Excluded Place Data" controls), SS merged the three places you described: when the excluded data is not excluded, the three places have the same part values. Even though SS has merged the places, it has a full TMG place record for each place, and SS does not know that the places represent the same physical location. As a counter-example, if you do not include the place detail field in the master place index, then all the locations in the same town will be merged, i.e., a bunch of places collapse to one in the master place index, but the merged places represent different physical locations. Anyway, that's why you are seeing the three map links. You can suppress a map link for a certain place by adding [:NO-PLACE-MAP-LINK:] to the place. See: http://ss.johncardinal.com/sscodes.htm#noplacemaplink So, if you omit the GEO-PLACE entry you have for the place that have excluded parts, and use the [:NO-PLACE-MAP-LINK:] code in its place, you should get the outcome you want.
