    3. This is odd. I have that Relation-thing turned on in my event lists, don’t remember what it’s called. I just input a man who is showing as my 4th cousin once removed. I then input his daughter (dau-bio) and she is showing as no relation to me. Yet when I do the Relationship calculator, it tells me she is my 5th cousin. Is this a bug? It’s not fatal if it is, I just haven’t seen it before. Robin in Short Pump

    3. Robin, Have you tried refreshing the Relationship Calculator (Ctrl-R) under the Tools menu? 3. Sorry, that was the wrong Relation Calculator. What you need to do is toggle the "Automatic 'Relation' tag" in the Prefs for the Project. 3. Under Preferences -> Current Project -> Other, press "Refresh relationships". This assumes you have selected (checked) the Automatic "relation" tag. 3. I think sometimes when you input the parent who is not related to you and then the child, the relationship-thingy doesn't always update automatically. Refreshing it as John suggested, should fix it On 3/20/2018 2:08 PM, John Cordes wrote: > Robin, > > Have you tried refreshing the Relationship Calculator (Ctrl-R) > under the Tools menu? > > John Cordes > > On Tue, Mar 20, 2018 at 02:00:55PM -0400, Robin Kaspar wrote: >> This is odd. 3. Ok that worked. I’ve just started using the auto-relationship thing and didn’t know this was an option. Thanks John. 3. Robin Kaspar wrote: > Ok that worked. I’ve just started using the auto-relationship thing > and didn’t know this was an option. Actually it is not an option, Robin, it is a requirement. The special "Relation" tag is NOT automatically refreshed. To refresh this every time you entered a new person or changed a relationship tag would severely degrade the program's performance. So this tag is only refreshed when you ask it to be. While you can go into Preferences to recalculate the relationships for all the people in your Dataset as was mentioned, there are two easier ways. First, there is a menu item on the RIGHT-click menu for the Details area labeled Automatic "Relation" tag. Second, if you are using a Custom Toolbar there is a pre-defined button which can be added to your toolbar called "Toggle Relative auto-tag". Both of these two methods work as a toggle off / toggle on action. If you choose the menu item or click the custom toolbar button, the "Relation" tag is turned off. Then simply choosing the menu item or clicking the custom button again turns it back on *and* recalculates all relationships for the entire dataset. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael
