I have had successes with MtDNA, Y-DNA and FF testing at FamilyTreeDNA, Testing has enabled me to break a brick wall and document a mitochondrial line as well as receive other leads. DNA testing goes hand-in-hand with traditional well-documented genealogy research. A couple of thoughts about the value of DNA testing -- 1) Your traditional research may show a well-documented line, but the DNA test shows that a non-paternal event occurred so that the line you were researching was not in fact *your* correct ancestral line. It happens in the best of families! 2) DNA also can lead you to discover that a surname that you are researching (maybe your own!) may be the result of a non-paternal event hundreds of years ago, such as a child being adopted by a couple without sons to continue their legacy. These are just two examples. You should be open to whatever you find. Is there any value to DNA testing (more ethnic sense) when a person's ancestry is well documented (by several people) back into the early 1600s and all ancestors (as well as their siblings and those descendants) are found in the same country?
