I was a beta subject for FTDNA for the MTDNA and autosomal DNA. Their test is much more scientifically valid than that of Ancestry. I had one major discovery which would not have been possible using documentary evidence OR Ancestry DNA and confirmed a relationship which was impossible to confirm using traditional methods. I also deplore Ancestry's policy of owning data (your tree) to do with as they please. I stopped participation at FTDNA several years ago when they adopted a policy too similar to that of Ancestry as far as a more social media nature. The management tried to get me to continue, but I refused. I removed my and my sisters' trees, as did several other serious genealogists. I receive autosomal and MTDNA results. I occasionally visit my site to look at matches. Most do not post trees either. I gave up emailing close matches years ago if they hadn't mounted trees. I also had some extremely unpleasant emails from inexperienced genealogists who took issue with my request for documentation. A tree is worthless if undocumented I always found Gedmatch a complete waste of time because anyone I contacted had no concept of genealogy. Others had luck. I wish you success but be prepared for annoyances. Go with FTDNA for the best results and get complete testing, not just autosomal. I know this is off topic, but given that most TMGers are serious, felt it warranted a reasoned response which is not likrly to occur on most boards.Toby Sent from my Verizon 4G LTE smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: Jack Lykins via TMG <[email protected]> Date: 3/19/18 8:41 PM (GMT-06:00) To: [email protected] Cc: Jack Lykins <[email protected]> Subject: [TMG] DNA Testing Services It's a bit off topic but would some readers comment on the DNA testing service used and how satisfied you were with the results? Also comment on how those results allowed extending your genealogy research would be interesting. Thanks!
