    1. [TMG] Filter to find source citation for Names & Relationship
    2. Jim Slade
    3. Can someone help me create a Filter & Report that will find all people who have a certain source # used as a Name or Relationship citation? I have a List of Events filter & report that will find everywhere where a certain source # is used, but it does not include the Relationships or Name citations. I have tried many, but nothing seems to find Names & Relationship sources. Thanks, Jim

    1. [TMG] Editing paths
    2. I run TMG on both a desktop and a laptop, doing all the data entry and editing on the desktop, and using a backup file to get the data to the laptop. This has worked for years, but recently, after having to replace both computers with new ones with Win 10, crazy things are happening on the laptop. I can restore a backup (even that's not easy) but if I make any changes I can't save them. Possibly I configured the backup/restore process wrong, copying to the laptop some configuration that belongs only to the desktop. I think I've fixed the backup now, but still living with the damage I've done. The combination of my age, the weirdness of Win 10, and the fact that I've never been a computer professional, is limiting my ability to solve it. I think, but I'm not sure, that the desktop TMG paths have been copied to TMG on the laptop. I want to fix them, using Preferences - Advanced, but I don't know how to find out the correct path for the laptop. Any advice will be appreciated. I hope all will be OK after I get the paths fixed. 3. John Cardinal's method works. I followed his procedure and haven't needed to enter the registration key since. However I occasionally have a different problem. Sometimes some of the configuration files get reset to defaults and I have to go to settings and correct them. Like the report configuration location for example. It happens more often when I open a different project after closing another one. I have 3 projects and they all have different location settings. But sometimes it happens when I have not been changing projects. > > > > - >

Another possibility is that the File Paths on the laptop are different from the desktop. Compare the File Paths in Preferences on the Desktop with those given in Preferences on the Laptop. The closer those two are to being the same, the easier it is to have a successful Backup/Restore from either direction. Have you tried opening the SAMPLE project, and then doing Backup/Restore operations from both directions? If this works, start comparing the differences between the SAMPLE project on both Laptop and Desktop and for your other Project. Lee

    3. Hi all, SUCCESS! The suggested procedure by John Cardinal i.e. unzip the sqz file using 7zip and then opening the project file (bypassing the TMG Restore Wizard) worked like a charm in getting my project up and running under v9.05 . As a test, I backed up the new project, then transferred it to my desktop, then restored it there. Everything seems to be OK. However, the problem of restoring a project via a sqz file using the Restore Wizard on the laptop still fails. (The same sqz file restored ok on my desktop). Other than reinstalling TMG on my laptop, I have no idea how to correct the situation. In the meantime, I can live with John's workaround Will let the list know if I have any success. Of course any other suggestion on fixing the laptop backup problem is welcome Thanks again for all your help. This is truly a great and extremely helpful llst. 3. Roger, I am not near my PC at the moment, so I am relying on my memory. I have the “.sqz” filetype configured to open with 7zip. You don’t have to do that, though. You can simply change the extension of the file from”,sqz” to “.zip”. MS Windows will warn you, but ignore that warning and proceed. After changing the extension, right-click on the (now) .zip file. You should see some 7zip command options, including “extract here”, “extract to <folder>”, etc. You can also open the archive which allows you to review the contents before you extract the files. I usually put the file in the folder where I want the files to be located, so I choose “extract here”. After the files are extracted, I use the File > Open command in TMG to open the project in TMG. TMG will build the index files because they are not included in the “.sqz” file. Even if this works for you, you should try to determine why the normal restore process is not working for you. You may want to post a message on the Wholly Genes forum. There are some users there who aren’t on TMG-L and they may have some other suggestions for you. John

    3. Hello John Cardinal, Thanks for your suggestion. Hopefully it will be the solution. However, the knowledge about doing your suggestion is probably "above my pay grade" at least for now. I'm willing to try, given some hints on how to proceed: I downloaded and installed a x64 version of 7-zip but I'm at a loss as to what file to execute (no icon on the desktop installed). I have put my sqz file into a subdirectory on the laptop Do I unzip that file? How? Once unzipped do I use the TMG restore wizard? If so what backup file(s) do I point to. If not how do I do it manually? Thank you for any guidance you can give me.The more cook-bookish the better. 3. John, I’ve done this hundreds of times. When people send me a SQZ file, I do not restore in TMG. Instead, I use an archive utility (7zip) to decompress the contents. That works well for me and helps me control what changes are made to my PC as I attempt to diagnose a problem in a TMG project or one of my programs. John

    3. Roger, I don't think I've ever actually done this; I wonder if Lee and/or others might have comments on what I am about to suggest. Given that you seem to be fairly desperate, I don't know of any harm that would be done by fully extracting the .zip version of your backup file into temporary directory somewhere on your computer. Then attempt to open the .PJC file from TMG and see what happens.
