    3. The GB is GenBridge. It is most likely that the Legacy file is using some new Legacy feature that was not known when Gen Bridge was coded. GenBridge has has not been updated for many years. The error message suggests that GenBridge has come across a file type that it does not know how to open and hence extract information from. My suggestion is to get a GEDCOM file as an alternative. The better but more difficult way would be to have Legacy installed on your TMG machine and manually transfer data by copy and paste between the 2 applications. That way you will know the context and quality of the data is that you are acquiring. 3. Carol, while Dropbox will cease functioning on XP, you should still have your Dropbox folder with its data, just lose the ability to sync. 3. This sounds like something that has been coded in TMG assuming that the project size is small and then it gets hung up because it is not allowing for the long time for a database reply. The processes get of sync and you see the result. I don't think that there is any fixed for this. 3. Robin, Makes sense. I suspected that the error message meant the import was a non-starter. Actually I am happier with GEDCOM, because I do not need a majority of the tags that this file appeared to have. 3. Diana, Sorry not to answer sooner, but our house was getting fumigated and we just got back home. I don't know if this is the same problem you are having. But some time ago I had a similar problem of lost/missing files. It would happen after the 1st optomize. The missing files were not in the recycle bin as deleted so I have no idea what happened to them. I asked on the list if I could restore an older backup and copy the files to the current project. I was told definitely no. I ended up having to use my last backup. Consequently I lost a whole days work. As a precaution before I did optomize/validate/optomize I backup TMG (just in case). Also I copy the TMG project directory. (I keep all my projects in their own directory). Then when a file was lost I was able to copy the file to the current project directory. (It was easier to use the copy of the files rather than have to restore the backup every time) The problem seemed to occur only after the 1st optomize. After the validate I would then optomize again and there was no problem. This happened every time I did the optomise/validate routine until my system crashed and I had to get a new computer. I don't know if it was a problem with my computer or the operating system. The problem hasn't occurred on the new computer. But as a precaution. I still backup and copy the directory before I optomize/validate. 3. Thanks Robin - that makes some sense. I feel - rather than know - the problem mostly arises when I've a number of other programs running at same time, so perhaps TMG is competing for scarce resource. Wonder if additional memory would resolve - I hope to move onto a new machine, with lots of memory (though still Windows 7) later in the year. In the meantime will soldier on with just the occasional swear! 3. Has anyone else experienced the following intermittent problem with TMG? I am using version 9.05 on Windows 7. The problem arises only occasionally when using a drop-down list in attempting to define a filter in a List of People screen. If I scroll down through the list, no problems arise. But sometimes, if the tag I want is a long way down the list, I sometimes click the first letter of the tag name to speed up the process. In the vast majority of cases this works but sometimes TMG just seizes up. Waiting for the program to respond does not work and so I simply have to use Task Manager to end TMG. This is more of an annoyance than anything else as the situation is always retrievable, but it is nonetheless irritating. Tom

    3. I had a worrisome occurrence a few days ago and hope someone can help. I’m running TMG 9.05 on a Mac via Parallels. I opened TMG (after not using it in a couple of months), navigated to a person page, and opened and closed several tags without incident. I then opened a tag with a sentence structure of <[M]>. The memo field was: See [R:NP Role 1] and his children || [R:NP Role 2], [R:NP Role 3] and [R:NP Role 4]. I noticed in the Witness box that only one individual displayed a custom role ([R:NP Role 1]). The rest all had the role of Witness. But I was sure I had originally assigned them custom roles as well, then later excluded them from the sentence by dividing the memo into two segments. When I tried to close the tag a message popped up that role [NP Role 3] was either entered wrong or was missing (or words to that effect). I OK’d out to close the tag anyway. I thought how odd, and ran Optimize. I took my eyes off the screen but it seemed to run normally. I then attempted to run VFI. Almost immediately a window popped up telling me it couldn’t perform the operation because the database was already in use. I Ok’d out, closed TMG and reopened it via the screen that provides the choice of “Sample”, "Last opened", or “Select”. "Last Opened" was grayed out. I opened the Sample database, closed it and attempted to open my Moffett database which still appeared in the dropdown list of available databases. But clicking on that gave me this message: File c:\Users\dianapowell\Documents\The Master Genealogist v9\Projects\MOFFETT_NPV.dbf not found I navigated to the Projects folder. It holds the Sample folder, and then a whole lot of individual files that belong to the Moffett database. I’m not sure how to proceed. I do have a back-up from the last time I did any significant data entry. But I’m really concerned about what is going on. Thoughts or suggestions? Thank you in advance. Diana Powell
