The Program Files (x86) folder is used for programs that are 32-bit applications while the Program Files folder [not x86] is for 64-bit application. This is a Windows set-up to provide for smooth running of the 32-bit programs in a 64-bit environment. TMG (or at least the latest versions) is a 32-bit program. Lee

Hi Lee, Thanks for your response. Pardon my thank you being so slow but I just completed 15 day of antibiotics for respiratory problems and haven't done much of anything for the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to go about this in a systematic manner. I first compared the five locations you mentioned to what I find on my computer. First one on your list caused a question. First question. Hello Ann, I have been using CrashPlan with TMG for 3 or 4 years without a problem. I keep my TMG files (except for Backups) in my Documents directory and do not exclude them from CrashPlan. During the time I have used CrashPlan with TMG I have gone from Windows 7 to 8, 8.1 and now 10. I do have TMG save my backup files to OneDrive though. However, my OneDrive folder is also backed up by CrashPlan so I get double backups. George The problem is common and related to the installation of the PDF printer. I'd certainly like to back up my .sqz files (10 automatically >numbered/renewed by TMG). Keep in mind that there are basically three TMG areas that need to be excluded: User Data - usually found in your user name/Documents folder. Shared Program Data - usually found in the Program Data folder on your C:/ drive. User Program Data - usually found in your user name AppData/Roaming folder. These are the default locations, and naturally may be different if you have made a custom installation and/or used the DataPaths.txt file method. In any case, if those are excluded from the backup, then you should be fine. As for your TMG backup SQZ files, I would suggest that you get in the habit of making a copy of each SQZ file immediately after it has finished. Copy it to a folder that is part of your backup plan. I use a batch file named BACKUP.BAT that copies the file I tell it to my TMG Backup folder outside the regular TMG file structure. Then my normal backup protocol takes over. This way I wind up with three copies -- the original, the copy I make with the batch file and the regular backup copy. I keep the batch file in my C:\ root folder, and run it from the Windows Run command. The first few times it is run, it may be helpful to run it from the CMD window. This allows any error message display where you can see them. Lee
I am unable to print from TMG 9.05. If I want to print an Individual Detail, I go to the Report Definition Screen; click on One Person and enter that person's number; then I select Printer in the Report Destination section; then click Create Report and nothing happens but the following error popup: OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. I've tried repairing the program from the Control Panel and reinstalling TMG from the suggested download site, but neither of these fixes the problem. Thanks in advance. George
Lee, I trust this is on topic because it affected my TMG performance, and I would like to share. I have experienced ongoing performance issues since I started using TMG in 2004. TMG did not directly cause my problems, but I would experience memory issues from processes not being released from memory that would slow TMG to a crawl. The only fix was rebooting - typically daily, but at least every 2 days. I was amazed that people like Terry Riegel didn't need to reboot for performance improvement. Over the years, I've had multiple conversations about this on this list. I upgraded to Windows 10 at the end of July. Since then, I have only restarted TMG when I've physically moved my notebook. The programs that were staying in memory under prior versions of Windows are behaving properly now, and I no longer have TMG performance degradation. If anyone's contemplating upgrading and concerned about TMG with Windows 10, my experience has been stellar. It's a much better behaved Windows, and it works perfectly with TMG. I don't see a way to do that within TMG. You could build a list of names of the people with name tags that are set to your custom style, then manually set the flags for the people on the list. You can use TMG-Utility to build the list of names with its Names/Change Name Style feature. Set the Old name style to your custom style, and set the New name style to any other style in use in your project. Set the next box to change All name tag types, and check the box to Include names in Log. Be sure to check the Log Only box so no actual changes will be made. Run the procedure and the Log will list all the names of people using your custom name style. I have set up a custom name style that I use for my cemetery "people". Can I run a report to set my "cemetery" flag for the people using that name style?
How do i get rid of the reminders that show up every time I open a new tag. I have them turned off in Preferences. Thanks..... Carol
If the name is in the Nick Name field, it word wraps, because I have a woman Given Name Narcissus Jane "Sissy Jane" Wray, who word wraps. At some point, the nickname will not print, then the given name will be initialized. You can get pretty much the same result by increasing the size of the other fields except for the Surname field. The interesting thing is the Surname field. Increasing the length of the surname will eventually drop the printing of both the GivenName and the NickName, but will retain the full Title (Reverend) and the field in the report will text wrap. I am not sure what it is, but it will probably always print the full Surname and apparently the Title. The other name fields will either be reduced to initials or dropped altogether. Another interesting thing is that of this person is the Focus Person of the Pedigree Chart, the name will print as "Reverend Doereymelasofameradoe" down in the box. But the Chart Title (upper left) will print the _full_ name == "Reverend John J. Donald, Yes, that is exactly what I am seeing. No other report seems to have this issue. Thanks for verifying that it is TMG and not something in my template! Actually there is more than enough room for his full name. If I put Reverend in the Title N1 field, his Given name is shortened. If I put it in the NickName field then the full name prints. If so, I suspect the problem is lack of space in > the report. Try abbreviating the Title to "Rev." and see if that > doesn't print the name rather than just the initial. Hmm!? I think I am missing something. If you enter the title (Reverend) in the NameNick field, then the Name Style Output Template tells TMG to print as John J. Reverend Doe. To get the output that you want with Reverend in the NameNick field, the Name Style Output Template needs to be like: [NameNick] [GivenName] [Surname] [Suffix] or [Title] [NameNick] [GivenName] [Surname] [Suffix] (with the Title field blank) But the printing of (full) GivenName versus initial(s) is controlled by the space available,.
