I'm working through all of the exhibits I need to resize for TMG and would appreciate some ideas/advice on what to do with some documents. My aim is to have exhibits in SS appear using the clickable lightbox to enlarge them. I'm fine now I think with resizing photos to work this way (often constrained by what I've been sent by family to start with). My problem is in working out how to resize documents such as census records, certificates and so on. (A US census page is one example). If I make them say 850 pixels high they're pretty much impossible to read. So I figure they have to be displayed as scrollable documents in Second Site but am not sure how to resize them to best achieve this. I'd be grateful for tips on what others do with these exhibits in Second Site. 3. Ann, I use TMG Utilities to Export my TMG images with Width and Height both set at 1000. This was something that John Cardinal suggested to me to help save space (I have thousands of images). My TMGU settings are: Exhibits > Export Images: - check "Resize Image", - type "1000" in both the Width and Height boxes, - then check "Reduce Dimensions Only" If you go to one of my web pages created with Second Site at http://www.acvancestors.com/g2/p2137.htm#i64087 and click on any of the camera icons on the page you can judge the readability of a variety of types of images: scans of book pages, scans of original documents, census images, etc. Greg On Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 9:10 AM, Ann Shepherd <annmcarson@gmail.com> wrote: > I'm working through all of the exhibits I need to resize for TMG and would > appreciate some ideas/advice on what to do with some documents. 3. For my site, I save documents as PDFs so they are downloadable and printable, not as images. I let the user and Adobe worry about sizing. Constance

    3. It's not difficult. Just go to the start menu and scroll down the App list (programs) til you find it and uninstall it. Then restart and Defender will activate. At least I think those are the steps I took---similar anyway. 3. Hi Lindsay After we met last month I did go to the Motel at Ginninderra/Federation Village - they never did get back to me but I wouldn’t worry about that as I thought it just barely suitable. There is a new lodge open just near there with conference facilities www.leumeahlodge <http://www.leumeahlodge.com.au/>.com.au/ <http://www.leumeahlodge.com.au/> - But I’m guessing the Dickson location would be more suitable. We would need to act soon to get a booking in place. Do you think there is real interest from the Sydney Group? Recent group messages didn’t seem to suggest many people were turning up even to their Sydney meeting last month. Another option would be for Canberra to arrange the workshop at the proven venue at Campbelltown. I would like to purchase another copy of Penny’s book. I enjoyed it immensely, particularly knowing you and Dennis and also to my surprise - Cheryl Emerson - who sat outside my office for a couple of years in the late 80s. I would like to send a copy to a 2nd cousin of mine in Perth who had felt a bit ostracised from the rest of us just because of the family’s reaction two generations ago when her widowed grandfather married his mother-in-law. The families didn’t have much contact after that. My generation knew nothing of this but she is very much a part of us now. If Penny could inscribe it for June - that would be appreciated. I will be at the October TMG meeting. Kind regards Arthur

You just have to uninstall the trial of Mcafee or whatever they are trying to get you to buy and activated Defender. It is an excellent AV program. Because of processor manufacturer's contracts with the 3rd party AV developers they HAVE to load on those trial versions. BUT you do not need them. Just use MS Defender. Before Win10 we used MS Security Essentials (now called Defender) since it became available around 2009, and it was excellent. There is a new lodge open just near there with conference facilities www.leumeahlodge <http://www.leumeahlodge.com.au/>.com.au/ <http://www.leumeahlodge.com.au/> - But I?m guessing the Dickson location would be more suitable. We would need to act soon to get a booking in place. Do you think there is real interest from the Sydney Group? Recent group messages didn?t seem to suggest many people were turning up even to their Sydney meeting last month. Another option would be for Canberra to arrange the workshop at the proven venue at Campbelltown. I would like to purchase another copy of Penny?s book. I enjoyed it immensely, particularly knowing you and Dennis and also to my surprise - Cheryl Emerson - who sat outside my office for a couple of years in the late 80s. I would like to send a copy to a 2nd cousin of mine in Perth who had felt a bit ostracised from the rest of us just because of the family?s reaction two generations ago when her widowed grandfather married his mother-in-law. The families didn?t have much contact after that. My generation knew nothing of this but she is very much a part of us now. If Penny could inscribe it for June - that would be appreciated. I will be at the October TMG meeting. Kind regards Arthur ------------------------------ Subject: Digest Footer To contact the TMG list administrator, send an email to TMG-admin@rootsweb.com. So I have to buy a new PC laptop, which I'll only use for TMG and associated things (TMGU, SecondSite, MS Office, Access, DragonSpeaking, IrfanView, etc) since I use a Mac for all our personal computing. I'd like to make sure I optimise the new laptop as best I can for TMG. Would like to continue with Windows 7 but I can't buy it anywhere in Australia so it looks as though I'm going to be stuck with Win10. Which is the best antivirus, etc software to use with TMG and Second Site? And is is easy to uninstall McAfee (which it seems I'm also stuck with to start with but as I understand it causes problems for TMG) and install something else instead? Any tips on this would be appreciated Thanks in advance Ann PS Am still plodding along at snail's pace with CrashPlan as a major 2nd backup in preparation for changeover to a new computer.

    3. You don't need to buy a 3rd party AV with Win 10. Windows Defender is built in to Win10. 1. Re: [TMG] Issue with latest BIOS update affecting my keyboard when in TMG

    3. There is a setting in the HP Bios that defaults that way. So your bios update probably created the issue. Google "How to enable/disable function keys on an hp" to find directions on how to go into the BIOS and adjust this setting. TMG is working, but I now have a couple irritating keyboard issues - like needing to press the 'fn' key in order to get the function keys to work. Anyone know what combination of keyboard attributes I need to change to get the Function keys to work by just pressing one key? I've fooled with this all day trying to figure it out!
