    3. I have two problems with reports. 1) Trying to print a Descendent Narrative report I would like to send it to a file but I get the message: file name: The folder C:\Documents and setting\Nancy\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Report_output does not exist. Then it offers to create a folder but tells me it cannot create the folder. (Notice TMG v7) I looked in the Preferences in Advanced and the report file path is for v9. I reset the defaults for the report but it did not change the path to v9. I do not see a way to get to the path to physically change it. 2) Trying to do a Journal report to Screen preview I get the message: The VFP9R.DLL file is invalid or damaged. I just found I can print a journal report to file. That is my preferred report. I don't feel so helpless now. Nancy

That is where is the backup file being created? It sounds like you are backing up to a thumb drive or other external drive. You should make backups to the default TMG Backups folder, and if you want it on the thumbdrive then copy the backup file to it. A similar kind of error can occur if you have TMG folders included for backup to a Cloud drive. In this case, exclude the TMG folders from the Cloud and copy the created TMG backup file to a folder that is included in the Cloud use. Lee

    3. Thanks for these links Mike. I've been using David's suggested sizes as a guide and working through most of my exhibits individually as he also suggests but mainly because I have such a wide range of quality, sizes, types. However, David does quite a bit of work on each of the source documents he uses - clipping the relevant sections, marking with red dots and so on. His suggested sizes for documents are based on that output I think. I won't have time to do this so am looking at using complete pages which is where my size dilemna comes in. If anyone has an SS site that uses a lot of documents I'd be glad to explore. Thanks too Greg for your TMGU resizing suggestion. I haven't been able to use this, again because of the wide variety of images I'm working with. It's great to be able to look at your site though as you do use a lot of documents. Thanks for that. Re your suggestion Constance, I understand what you mean but I'm trying to make my SS output (which will be private on dvd) as accessible as possible as very many of my readers aren't very computer skilled, don't even use a printer, etc. This is an alternative to a book which I and they would prefer for them but which I just can't produce because of the large number of descendants and exhibits involved. SS is perfect for output that includes everything but I need to try and keep it easy. 3. I'm working through all of the exhibits I need to resize for TMG and would appreciate some ideas/advice on what to do with some documents. My aim is to have exhibits in SS appear using the clickable lightbox to enlarge them. I'm fine now I think with resizing photos to work this way (often constrained by what I've been sent by family to start with). My problem is in working out how to resize documents such as census records, certificates and so on. (A US census page is one example). If I make them say 850 pixels high they're pretty much impossible to read. So I figure they have to be displayed as scrollable documents in Second Site but am not sure how to resize them to best achieve this. I'd be grateful for tips on what others do with these exhibits in Second Site. Regards Ann

New one has arrived but am determined if I can to get all set up and cleaned up before transfer (I mean other software, processes etc, not TMG which is fine.) Recently you responded to one of my posts about backing up to CrashPlan (now done after 10 days!) and advised what TMG files to exclude. In that response you mentioned a backup program you use to automatically send a copy of your sqz file and other backups to a folder which is then included in your main backup. Despite searching my computer and the archives I can't find this message anywhere. I must be using the wrong words to search, I'm sorry. Could you please tell me again what that program is? It's not so much a program as a batch (or script) file. You create it in NOTEPAD (or other plain text editor) and save it with a file name something like "BKUP.BAT" in the C: root directory. The content of the batch file is like (between the lines): ====================== CD C:\TMGv9\UD\Backups\ @echo off setlocal if not "%1"=="" goto argsok echo usage: %0 sqzfile echo where: sqzfile is the file name of your SQZ file echo Example: sqzfile = myproject5.sqz echo backup myproject5.sqz goto end :argsok setlocal set sqzfile=%1 set backupdir=C:\TMGBAK\ if not exist %backupdir% goto notfile echo %backupdir% exists goto skipdir :notfile rem If the backup file does not exist, create it. if exist %backupdir%\nul goto skipdir md %backupdir% if "%errorlevel%"=="0" goto skipdir echo Error creating backup directory goto end :skipdir echo Copying %sqzfile% xcopy /f/v %sqzfile% %backupdir% :end rem Clean up endlocal pause ========================== Copy the above into your text editor. You will want to change the files line in the file from: CD C:\TMGv9\UD\Backups\ from "C:\TMGv9\UD\Backups\" to the full file path where you TMG SQZ file is created> You may want to change the line above (near the middle) from set backupdir=C:\TMGBAK\ to show a different file path -- say: set backupdir=D:\MYBAKUP\ This batch file will create this directory if it does not exist. Save the file in the text editor to something like: bkup.bat in the root directory of your C:\ drive. So if your TMG backup is say -- Carpenter2.sqz then right-click on the Windows Start button and enter: bkup carpenter2.sqz A command window will appear showing what has been done. The last line showing in the window should be "Press any key to continue . . . " with the next to last line being: "1 file(s) copied" and the file source and target shown above that. If you don't have that, you will want to read through the text shown to see what has happened and what errors are shown. Hope this helps - Lee
