Thanks Terry and John. I had overlooked this aspect of the search feature in SS. I went to my own SS-created site and used the Search page I had already created there and it worked like a charm. (I don't have any flag filters set in SS and am looking at 18tha and 19th century weddings, so not worried about the "Exclude Living" issue.) Thank you both for your patience and help! Greg, Terry has suggested using TMG Utility to add married names. That's worth doing, but you may also want to consider using Second Site's Search feature. 1 - Make a NEW SDF file that you will not use to publish. 2 - Uncheck "Exclude Living" and do not set a flag filter. That will ensure that everyone in your TMG project is a member of the site. 3 - Add a Search page and put a Search User Item on it. 4 - Make the site. That will provide a Search page where you can search for people using the person's name (or a part of it) as well as the person's spouse or parents. You can see an example here: http://www.bezansons.com/search.htm Try this search, for example: Subject first name: Elizabeth Spouse surname: Bezanson That will find women named Elizabeth who married someone with the surname Bezanson. There are two hundred women named "Elizabeth" and thousands of husbands named Bezanson on that site, but the SS search make it VERY easy (and quick) to find the 30 or so people who match both terms. I have a database of nearly 80,000 individuals that I have built in TMG over the years. I'm now doing detailed research on 8 generations of large intermarried families that used the same given names over and over and whose spouses tended to have the same given names (intermarried Quaker families). I often find female head of household listings in the early censuses (1790-1840) where I am pretty certain that this is a widow (e.g., a Sarah SMITH), but I have many SMITH men marrying women named Sarah and I have to go through all of the SMITH marriages (200?) to try to determine who married a Sarah. I need a more efficient tool to be able to SMITHs with wives named Sarah. Ideally, I could build a search rule for Project Explorer that will allow me to Identify all of the SMITH wives whose Given Name contains Sarah. Unfortunately, I never used the NAME-MARR tag in TMG and can't find an obvious set of variables in the Project Explorer drop down menus. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might do this? Thanks for any ideas offered. Greg
Brian, If you have your TMG icon on your "taskbar" for quick open, then it is two steps. First right click on the TMG icon (which shows two lines...."The Master Genealogist" ....and.... "unpin from the taskbar"). Right click again on the line that says "The Master Genealogist" and then click on "run as administrator". This will bring up a screen that requires you to fill in your name, email., and your full unlock code. Complete that screen and that should make Windows 10 happy that you have a paid copy.......at least until Windows 10 again has a major update and manages to forget what you just told it about TMG, sigh. Hello All, I am running a purchased/licensed TMG 9.05. A couple of months ago my venerable Windows XP computer started having problems and I switched to a new Windows 10 machine. Since then TMG pops up every month telling me that my trial period has expired. When I load my serial number TMG is happy. for another month. It's annoying, but certainly not a disaster. Still, does anyone have an idea what I may have done/not done when I changed computers/operating systems? Any suggestions how to eliminate this? Thanks for your help! Brian
Diane, I assume that by "descendancy narrative report" you are referring to a TMG Journal Report. Apparently the GEDCOM from Ancestry included many TMG "witness" people on events for the principal participants. There may be a way to control this in creating or importing the Ancestry GEDCOM - I don't use Ancestry GEDCOMs so don't know. But there is a way to suppress all these witness sentences in the TMG Journal Report. In the report options, on the Tags tab, you probably have the "All events and witnessed events" choice selected. Select one of the other choices and your unwanted witness sentences should be eliminated. Of course this will also eliminate any witness sentences that you may have wanted to retain, so if this is the case you would need to fix the problem at the GEDCOM import level. I am having great difficulty with a GEDCom created from Ancestry The reports now created in TMG are all most unusual Here is an example of a descendancy narrative report with lots of witnessing going on which I dnat want nor need I. James Robert1 Wilson (926) witnessed the birth of James Robert Wilson (926) on 8 Dec 1868 at Clevedon South Auckland, New Zealand. He witnessed the baptism of Sutherland Wilson (967) on 26 Apr 1898 at Papakura, New Zealand. 100% on target. I have assumed that Ancestry simply made gedcom uploads so unsatisfactory as a tool to promote use of their own proprietary software. It's such a short sighted approach.
