    1. [TMG] Unique endnotes and [CM]s
    2. Charlie Towne
    3. I've got a question/observation involving journal reports created using TMG 9.05, saved to MS Word, using Unique Endnotes (under the Report Options / Sources tab; all other choices under that tab are unchecked). The TMG help page "Report Options: Sources" says "If multiple citations for the same source but different [CD1]s and/or [CM1]s occur, then the first unique endnote uses the Full Footnote template, and the Short Footnote template is used for the second and subsequent unique endnotes for that same source." I'm finding that help page statement to be true for [CD]s, but not for [CM]s. Second and subsequent citations to a source, with a different [CM], are using the Full Footnote template, not the Short Footnote template. (For clarity, this has nothing to do with split [CDs] or [CM]s. I've never used them.) Does anyone else see the same thing? -- Charlie Towne cetowne@adelphia.net

    3. Thanks to Earl Bonneau for the fix. The problem was Var Name Tag in one of the two people. I deleted that and it resolved the issue. Thanks to all. Gene Clark

But check any Source Citations on the "to be deleted" Tags and copy them to the retained Tags so you don't lose them. Lee

What you have is people with multiple Name Tags, perhaps with identical names. What you are looking at is a list of names, not a list of people. Look in the main Tag Box for additional names, and delete the duplicates if they are in fact identical. This often happens when merge duplicate people, as in after an import of people. Terry Reigel

Hi, Gene, Are you absolutely sure these are "different" people with duplicate ID numbers? Usually if the ID numbers are the same the search screen is simply showing the various Name-Var tags for this same person. Most search screen show "names" not "people" so you will get multiple entries for any person who has multiple name tags. If you want to avoid seeing the duplicate names, most search screens, such as the Picklist, can set a Filter to only show the Primary names. Hope this gives you ideas, Michael

I need to think about all the aspects of the input which could affect and trigger this behaviour, and then construct a plan to completely test them all. Among what I have already mentioned, I am thinking that the length of that first tag's output sentence may? also have an affect and will need to be checked, among other possible things. I will obviously need to test the max number of all *three* different types of citations which can potentially output with this first sentence: - citations to the Primary Name tag, - citations to the two Primary Relationship tags, and - citations to the tag for this first sentence. > Another thing I discovered. TMG automatically puts the subject's > primary name at the beginning of the Individual Narrative. There can > be some peculiar results if the first tag doesn't start with [P]! Yes, this has always been TMG's design for the Individual Narrative. TMG makes a point to start an Individual Narrative with that person's full Primary name, and will add a separate leading sentence which is only that name if the first sentence does not start with [P]. As you noted one could construct a separately named custom tag with an appropriate Sort Date to always be the first tag, with an appropriate heading sentence. The Report Definition of an Individual Narrative could then selectively include this custom tag type, since one may not wish to include it in other types of reports. I would suggest something like the sentence below would probably be sufficient for your purposes without need to change the sentence of whatever tag would come next: [UND:][BOLD:][P][:BOLD}[:UND] > I didn't explore this bug too much more Thanks for testing as much as you did. I will do more before I add it to the list. I will also need to see if this maximum number of sources on the first sentence affects other types of reports beyond the Individual Narrative. Of course if any other users want to do some testing and pass along the results that would save me some effort <hint, hint, grin> Michael The TMG archive is found here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/TMG/ Instructions on how to subscribe to TMG: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TMG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I wonder whether perhaps creating some smaller projects or datasets from your corrupted one might allow you to put together an uncorrupted one. In other words, not every person will use all your sources, so perhaps you could divide and isolate, and gradually figure out which part of the source file is bad. Others who understand database structure better than I do may be able to say whether this approach would work, but it seems to me it might possibly.
